MVC strength in 2025-26

The MVC is ranked in 9th place in Conference RPI with a record against D1 opponents of 61-46

Surprisingly, the combined number of NET Quadrant 1 wins by all the 11 MVC teams combined is 2, and both were by Southern Illinois.
The definition of quality of wins is based on the location of the game, and the NET ranking of the opponent-
  • Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
  • Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
  • Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
One of SIU's Quad 1 wins was their 68-67 win at Belmont (current NET 55)- that appears it will remain a solid Quad 1 win
The other was an early season 86-84 road win at High Point (current NET 75)- that win is borderline Quad 1, and could fall to a Quad 2 if High Point's NET drops.

Bradley has no Quad 1 wins, and 3 Quad 2 wins-
A home win over Belmont (NET 55) which is currently a Quad 2
A neutral court win over Liberty (NET 74), which is Quad 2.
And a road win over SIU (NET 126), which is currently Quad 2

The bottom line is that there is no team close to being considered for an at-large bid. Belmont's absence of a Quad 1 win will be sufficient to deny them an at-large, despite a decent NET of 55, IMO.

Hey coach that's amazing that Southern Ill. Has two Quad 1 wins in for the Valley! Just shows you never know when a team plays exceptionally well, they can beat you! Belmont may have to play SIU in St.Louis! I want to ask you how the Ohio Valley is ranked by conference. You said the Valley is 9th! The reason I bring that up is Miami of Ohio is still unbeaten this year! That's quite an accomplishment for even a mid-Major! Is the competition tough in there conference? Plus you know, we lost Almar Atlason to them and he's contributing beneficial points off the bench for them! What are the odds he would transfer to Miami ohio!!! Did any outlet have them on there radar at the start of this year? And to add insult to injury, we also lost L.Stowers from Peoria to them!!!! Quite a coincidence or they stole them from us? I'll await your comments!!!!

Miami’s accomplishment is impressive but they do have one of the worst Strength of Schedule (352) plus 3 non-D1 wins

SIU's previous Quad 1 win at High Point, was right on the borderline for a Quad 1 road win (NET 75) when I posted the above.
But today, High Point's NET has dropped 3 places, and is 78, and that drops it to a Quad 2 win for SIU.
So as of today, the MVC has only 1 Quad 1 win, and that was SIU's road win at Belmont (NET 55).

You know the system is broken when Marquette is dead last in the Big East with a 9-18 record and they have a better NET than Bradley or SIU. Or, the 15th place SEC team has a NET inside the top 100. :cautious:
