MVC Top Freshmen for 2015-16

I disagree with you on van Bree. I think most Valley teams would like a 6'9" kid who can dribble, create shots, and shoot 36% on threes, plus rebound. He would not play nearly as much on most other teams, but he'd get playing time.

Luuuuuuuuk . Any team in the conf would love to have him. I am really excited for the future for him and Dontae Suggs DLO and I'm hopeful about Joel and James too.

Just for interest sake...here are a couple of our former threads about freshmen in the MVC

From 2008- the all time best freshman seasons in Bradley's history...going back to pre-1950, which isn't really comparable since so many of those 1940'-50's guys came out of the service and were 24-26 years old & had played plenty of amateur ball, and even comparing to the 1970's is difficult.

We have FIVE current freshman players whose scoring average would make the top 10-15 on this list..
but ......the TOP TEN best scoring averages since Hersey Hawkins extend all the way down to 5-6 ppg- and we have 6 players in that range currently.

From 2009- many of the most productive freshmen in the MVC had scoring averages of 4-6 ppg
Some even far under that, like Marc Sonnen (1.9 ppg) and Dyricus (4.6 ppg) turned out to have very fine careers in the MVC

Update on the Valley's top freshmen.... now that ISU's guy is out of the running....
Braves now have the TOP FOUR

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye 9.3 ppg - also 6th in MVC play in assists & 7th in Assists/Turnover Ratio
Luuk van Bree 8.6 ppg - also 9th in 3-pt%
Ronnie Suggs 8.2 ppg - also 4th in FT%

Antoine Pittman 8.1 ppg - also 2nd in FT%
Jarrid Dixon 7.8 ppg - also 7th in steals
Markis McDuffie 7.6 ppg
Obediah Church 6.7 ppg - Church is also 6th in rebounds, 2nd in blks, 4th in MVC FG%
Ryan Kreklow 6.7 ppg - also 7th in MVC 3-pt%
Dominik Olejniczak 5.4 ppg
Callum Barker 4.9 ppg
Armon Fletcher 4.6 ppg
Scottie James 3.4 ppg in only 1/3 the playing time that DLO & others have -

Loyola's only freshman Pernell Adgei hadn't played in a game since well before Christmas, but played in 6 games early - even starting one..
...but no official report that he is injured. now, suddenly he got in to the game this week vs. UNI for 3 minutes
There was one report back when Bradley knocked off Loyola that Adgei simply wasn't getting playing time because the coach wasn't willing to give him any.
Ya gotta wonder if he's also getting a message sent...

..

the MVC All Freshman team came right out of the top seven freshman scorers ...
I am convinced if they added two more to the 1st Team - or even if Bradley had finished a bit higher than 9th,
then they would have added Pittman & Suggs - too bad they just missed.
Olejniczak also came on strong - 18 pts/8 rebs in Drake's loss in St. Louis

Evansville's only freshman, Harris Brown, gets suspended....

oops....Evansville loses their only freshman as Harris Brown - who averaged over 30 ppg in high school - quits the team at Evansville & will transfer

Brown seemed to never know what he wanted to do - he first verballed to Loyola, the reneged, then went to Evansville and waited behind all their talented high scoring seniors, and now is his chance - but he's gonna leave

looking back now at the MVC's 40 or so freshmen last season - a bunch are no longer on the rosters...
The ones in blue below are already gone -
dark green = All Freshmen Team

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, BU - starter, 11.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.2 apg
Obediah Church, Missouri State - starter, 8.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg
Luuk van Bree, BU - starter, 7.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg 35% on 3-pt shooting
Callum Barker, BU - starter, 9.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg
Landry Shamet, Wichita - 8.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg - may be out a month with injury
Dominik Olejnikzak, Drake - 7.3 ppg, 8.0 rpg (stats kinda beefed up due to one exhibition-caliber DII)
Armond Fletcher, SIU - 5.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg
Roland Griffin, ISU - 7.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg
Eric Hamilton, Wichita - 5.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg
Tyrone Taylor, Wichita - 6.3 ppg, 1.0 rpg

Ronnie Suggs, BU - starter, 6.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg
Antoine Pittman, BU - 4.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, missed two games with injury
Jarred Dixon, Missouri State - 5.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg- came on strong late in season
Casey Schlatter, Drake - 6 ppg, 3.0 rpg
Joel Okafor, BU - 2.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.0 apg
Davante Cooper, BU - 2.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg
Harris Brown, Evansville - 3.3 ppg, zero rebs

Billy Wampler, Drake - 4.3 ppg, 1.0 rpg
Pernell Adgei, Loyola - 3.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg only 8 min per game
Scottie James, BU - 2.0 ppg, 1.8 rpg

Markis McDuffie, Wichita - 2.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg - came on strong late in season
Emondre Rickman, Indiana State - 1.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg
Keyshawn Evans, ISU - 0.5 ppg, 0.8 rpg - playing minimally even against early opponents. Mighta benefited from RS -
Austin Weiher, SIU - 2.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg - getting 15 min per game (7th most on SIU) due to shallow SIU frontcourt yet very low production.
Nick McGlynn, Drake - 5 pts off the bench - deep in rotation, 90% of his minutes thus far were in 97-52 blowout over Simpson
Rudolfs Stradnieks, SIU - 0.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg - despite very shallow SIU frontcourt, still deep in rotation
Laquarius Paige, Indiana State - 1.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg- coming off injury, getting limited minutes
David N'Diaye, ISU - 1.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg and 0-8 on FT ..
Peter Hanley, BU - 0.8 ppg - has only played in one game
D'Angelo McBride, BU -

Robin Thompson, Missouri State - scoreless in 4 minutes in season opening loss to ORU. Gotta wonder why he'd blow a RS.
Ryan Kreklow, Missouri State - scoreless in 1 minute on one game - ditto
Johannes Dolven, Drake - scoreless but has not played - may be redshirting
Brett Barney, Wichita State - has not played - poss. redshirting
Bronson Kessinger, Indiana State - not playing - poss. redshirting
Luke McDonnell, UNI - redshirting
Spencer Haldeman, UNI - redshirting
Justin Dahl, UNI - redshirting
Lincoln Conrey, UNI - redshirting
Elvis Harvey, ISU - has not played - redshirting
Matt Hein, ISU - redshirting

Here's a list of the freshmen each team has for 2016-17, the ones in red will be redshirt freshmen
UNI will be a little like Bradley as they have 3 true freshmen, 4 redshirt freshmen, 1 w/o soph, 5 juniors and 1 senior

Bradley- Koch Bar, Jayden Hodgson, Nate Kennell, Darrell Brown, Jr., Lou Griffith
Drake - Johannes Dolven
Evansville - Dru Smith, Jaiveon Eaves
ISU - Andre Washington (got the same hair-do a number of other ISU players have, just needs a headband), Madison Williams, Isaac Gassman, Elvis Harvery, Matt Hein
Indiana State - Jordan Barnes, Ethan Claycomb, Matt Deady, Bronson Kessinger
Loyola - Cameron Satterwaite, Bruno Skokna, Matt Chastain, Jake Baughman
Missouri State - Greg Williams
UNI - Juwan McCloud, Tanner Lohaus, Isaiah Brown, Luke McDonnell, Spencer Haldeman, Justin Dahl, Lincoln Conrey
SIU - Brendon Gooch, Aaron Cook, Jeremy Roscoe
Wichita - CJ Keyser, Austin Reaves, Steven Solomon, Landry Shamet, Brett Barney
(Peyton Allen will be a scholarship redshirt sophomore)

one last thing- a recent recruiting article on the web site Mid-major Madness implied that Bradley, ISU, and Loyola have the best incoming recruiting classes behind Wichita, but they count as incoming recruits - the kids who had redshirted in 2015-16 like Alex Foster, Loyola's Custer, Shockers' Shamet and the four UNI kids..
They predict Bradley (& Loyola) will be "markedly better" this season...
