Davenport West won again last night in a low scoring game 33-28 at Bettendorf. They are now 9-1 in conference, and 12-2 overall. Nate had only 4 points.
 
Remy Abell and the Louisville Eastern team had little problem winning tonight- Eastern beat Greenwood 69-18.
 
Nate Wells and Davenport West were scheduled to play Davenport North Tuesday night. However, the game was postponed due to the weather.


Remy Abell and Louisville Eastern played Louisville Central tonight.
Eastern won 67-58 to go to 21-1.
 
#1 ranked Louisville Eastern was upset tonight (Feb. 2) by Tates Creek 52-46. Tates Creek is 17-3 and a pretty good team, and is ranked #5 in the state. Eastern is now 21-2.

Remy Abell had 13 points to lead Eastern.
 
You know, I really do hope both of these guys work out, but seeing what they are averaging in high school does not get me real excited. If they can't take to players who are way below their level right now, how are they going to make a big impact in college like some have suggested?

... as opposed to Max B., who seems to dominate every game in which he plays?
 
Trying to judge how a kid will do in college based on how many points he scores in high school is not always an accurate way to predict.
Patrick O'Bryant was not as dominant in high school as you would think for a skilled 7-footer. His numbers were not too different from Nate Wells. Guys like Tony Bennett and Will Franklin were mostly bench players who did not impress any D1 recruiters while they were in high schools, but they became very good college players.

And Remy Abell's numbers are affected by the fact that he plays on a team with a lot of other talent. 3 of his senior teammates already are committed to D1 schools, so Remy is not the only scorer or rebounder on the team. On the other hand, Donivine Stewart is the only D1 talent on his team, and the primary scorer. So his scoring numbers look a lot better than they will in college, but his assist numbers will probably increase once he gets to Bradley.
 
I agree with you DC. You never know how someone is going to develop.

Recruiting seems to be somewhat of a crapshoot...

Nate is not a traditional recruit anyway... But Remy Abell is, and I think his results are very encouraging. I'm not able to watch these games, but numbers or not (and I have a feeling his averages are actually quite good), he keeps getting MVP awards out of these tournaments his team is winning. I think this is a big deal becuase I think that means he's probably the best player on his team-- which is considered one of the best teams in the nation. So, count me in the numbers of the "thinks Remy Abell is a very exciting recruit" crowd.

Exactly! It's completely ignorant to look at his numbers for a couple games and say you aren't excited. If you've been following him at all, he is in the race for Mr. Basketball in Kentucky, won the MVP of the Bluegrass tournament, and is arguably the best player on arguably the best team in the state, a team that was just ranked inside the top 25 high school teams in the country. Contrary to some, I'll continue to be extremely excited and keep my fingers crossed that he ends up on the hilltop, because I think he could be a special player.
 
Given our track record on successfully evaluating 2 guards, while being relatively unsuccessful on bigs, I'm feeling more optimistic on Abell, while hoping for the best from Wells.

Either way, I hope these kids get a chance to develop in an appropriate way without unrealistic expectations.
 
Remy Abell and Eastern HS bounced back from their loss to clobber Kentucky Country Day High School 85-41 Friday night (2/4). Remy Abell scored 16 points. Eastern is now 22-2.

And Nate Wells and Davenport West won a big game Friday night (2/4) against the team they were tied with at the top of the MAC standings. West beat Central 64-53 to take sole possession of 1st place with a 10-1 conference record (13-2 overall). Nate had 4 points.

Speaking of numbers, I did some digging and couldn't find anything but anyone have any idea what kind of numbers Abell's putting up on the season... Ppg, apg, rpg, fg%, etc?
