NCAA is changing the NIT

In 2027 the NIT will shrink from 32 teams to 24

*** Historical note - the NCAA acquired the NIT in 2005 for $56.5 MILLION as part of the settlement of
a lawsuit against NCAA for prohibiting teams from playing in the NIT.
The NIT had operated independently from 1938 until 2005, and in the early years was considered the more prestigious of tournaments
due to the high profile and heavily media covered finals at Madison Square Garden.

This a complete sham. The NCAA had a big thing about such a small % of teams made the postseason of any type and that was the impetus to raise the number of teams in the NCAA tournament. That was the justification. So they get this passed to move up to 76 teams and then they cut back on the NIT right away? That makes no sense. This is clearly a ploy to only cater to the power conference schools. They don't give a crap about any mid-majors. Would having 32 teams in the NIT really be a bad thing, even with the NCAA at 76 teams? The NIT could be a fun almost mid-major tournament and what is wrong with that?
