NCAA issues statement on their update of student-athlete eligibility

This rule will force 26-y/o players to move on with their lives.
yes- altho there really weren't many of them and I am unabke to see where they generated much of an issue.
But it also would hurt guys like Rienk Mast, who lost his first full season to injury then again lost another year later on.
Under the new rules (and with the Covid waivers no longer available) he would have lost 2 of his 5 years
Same with Sam Singh & Will Egolf - both would have ended up only playing 3 years

Already the NCAA eligibility rule change is facing lawsuits. 15 college basketball players from the high school class of 2022, and who just used their final season of eligibility in 2025-26 are suing the NCAA to get in on the 5th year rule-

That class who participated in 4 years of eligibility in college athletics from 2022-2026 were somewhat unique in that they were one year too late to get an extra year from the Covid rule, and one year too early to be included in the new "5 in 5" rules.
The NCAA says they are expecting legal challenges, and expect many more lawsuits, but that "we do not intend to change course."
I guess the courts will decide that.

The 15 plaintiffs in this lawsuit, which includes one MVC player (Jalen Quinn of Drake) are:
  • Filip Borovicanin (Xavier)
  • Malik Messina-Moore (Xavier)
  • Savannah White (Xavier)
  • MJ Collins Jr. (Cincinnati / former Utah State)
  • Kolby King (Cincinnati / former Utah State)
  • Javon Bennett (Dayton)
  • Shawn Phillips Jr. (former Missouri)
  • Josh Reed (former Penn State / Drexel)
  • Chevalier Emery Jr. (Cleveland State)
  • Jalen Quinn (Drake)
  • Donovan Brown (Massachusetts)
  • Christian Henry (Fordham)
  • Ziare Wells (Oakland)
  • Cristian Carroll (Youngstown State)
  • Caden Powell (Baylor)
