NCAA or NIT

Bradley didn't rank Drake, they just played them. Be happy that the Braves made every newspaper in the country and even got a shot from ESPN.

Uhhh, I hate to burst your bubble regarding your theory of postseason home games squirrel, but if you look at this mock bracket you will see that every, and I do mean EVERY mid-major team got stuck with a road game in the first round.

Not saying that would necessarily happen this year, but if the CBI holds mid-majors in this "esteemed" regard, then I want no part of this tourney!

A "mock" bracket is just that. I doubt they put much work into preparing it.

My whole point is shop around and take the best offer. That is all.

This "third" tournament is beginning to sound like the college football bowl system to me. There's no reason for more than a third of the teams in D-1 basketball to be playing in a post-season tournament (the 65 for the NCAA, the 32 (I think) for the NIT and another 32 (again, not positive) for the "CBI"), such as the bowl system does (over half of the 113 teams get to go to bowl game, which is ridiculous).

And what teams are going to make up this third tournament? Those that eked out a 15-14 record (or worse) and were at or below .500 in their respective conferences? Come on, no one wants to see that!

I agree Raider... CBI=who cares

I wouldn't dismiss the CBI, especially if it can get some TV deals. I find it hard to believe that you guys who are against the CBI would be in favor of turning down a BCS team coming into Carver Arena if that was their offer. Plus, unlike the NIT which is now run by the NCAA, we would be able to consume 'beverages' at a CBI game.

It's sounding a little better now isn't it...hmmm....hmmm....Mr. Scholarship winner....hmmm.....hmmm....gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir and I never slice....D@MN!

I suppose that's possible, but I just don't see many people watching it at all, no matter who's playing. When you consider the CBI will be teams that were not only leftovers from the NCAA, but leftovers from the NIT, a tournament already lacking a whole lot of attention, I just don't see anybody taking it too seriously.

Hey we should never turn down a sponsor.;)

Another chance at consuming beverages at Carver is a good thing but...

The CBI oversaturates a good thing that is already in place. If any school out there cant make the NCAA or NIT then that school does not deserve a post season tournamant.imo

Actually. . .we don't know that they'll be NIT leftovers. . .the CBI invitations (their plan is within an hour of the NCAA Selection Show) will have been extended several hours before the NIT extends (generally 2-3 hours after) its bids.

That's why nobody knows what will happen with this 3rd tournament.

Also, over the years there have been numerous 20 win teams sitting at home in late March. While some were OK with it, there were Cleveland State's and Akron's sitting at home that WANTED to be playing. . .so I think it could offer a better product than the NIT, whether or not people care.

Maybe this tournament oughtta wait a week.... after the 1st two rounds of the NCAA. They'd be able to maybe get teams upset like Kansas. LOL!

Alright, let me rephrase, I LIKE Louisville, I'm not a die hard like I am with Illinois and Bradley. I'm sure you all have teams that you like to see win, not necessarily favorite teams, but teams you like to see win. As I remember, MM LIKES Xavier.
Thanks for remembering IlliBrave. It shows you really care. ;) I DO like Xavier and I DO have some gear. I lived in Cincy for 5 years. I supported one of the local teams while there. But I did start following them when Lumpkin and Brown (and Posey and Darnell Williams) were all freshman. That was back in 1996.

The idea of the CIB does not really thrill me, but i do like the idea of a 3 game championship. I think it would be a sweet thing to watch especially if we could get 2 of those 3 at carver.

3 game final...dumb!

it's going to turn into the NBA finals where a team can afford a loss and let that play into their strategy for the game.

what makes March the greatest month of the year is that teams HAVE to win, and it gives other teams a chance for upsets and to prove that teams like Duke, Illinois (not this year), and Kansas (go bu) can be stopped and can be beaten.

a 3 game final would be really boring and take alot of the allure out of college basketball.

as for CBI vs NIT
it doesn't matter because we're goin to the big dance with an MVC tournament win:-D

You guys realize the NIT bubble is getting rough, right?

Several of those BCS "16-13"-type teams missed the NIT last year. Plus an Akron team that was 26-7.

These aren't bad teams going to the CBI.

p.s. My prediction: The CBI stablizes next year, and the NIT conventiently drops their conference champion rule, allowing the CBS to gobble all the small majors up while the NIT takes the high majors.

It is too soon to tell yet about this new CBI.

But, If I were to compare it to the D-1 FBS post season it would have to rank somewhere between the Meineke-Car-Care Bowl and the Motor City Bowl. Great, you can tell your team and the imediate fans that we are in the post season. But other than the team and Imediate fans no one else on the planet cares.

I'm with ya TAS. I was thinking along the lines the CBI draws teams like last year's NC St (6 seed) and Providence (5 seed) among others that don't like their draw. Pretty soon, the CBI has the best teams, expands to 32. NIT loses interest and dies. Now conference winners of the lesser conferences don't go to ANY postseason.

Well I can see this point to a degree, but I think that the NCAA could have done this without buying out the NIT. Maybe I am missing something about this though?

The NCAA was likely going to lose their antitrust lawsuit filed by the NIT (thus taking a significant amount of power away from the NCAA), so rather than go to court, they used their deep pockets to buy out the NIT.

I thought it was cheaper for the NCAA to buy the NIT than pay for the continued litigation on an active lawsuit that the NIT brought on. The NCAA's were actually smart enough to realize that when lawyers are playing games, only the lawyers win.
