2026 NCAA Tournament trivia- Western Illinois becomes the first Division I team to be eliminated from any chance of making the NCAA Tournament.
360 teams are qualified to compete this year via their conference tournaments for a bid to the NCAA Tournament. However, the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament only includes the top 8 teams at the end of the regular season schedule. With their loss last night at home to Little Rock, WIU fell to 5-22 overall and 1-16 in the OVC. With 4 games left in their season, they are 5½ games out of the 8th and final spot in the conference that qualifies for the tournament.
This site tracks the teams left in contention for the NCAA Tournament championship-

there's 360 teams who are qualified to compete... but there are several teams who had already been eliminated
by virtue of being ineligible-
Le Moyne, Mercyhurst, New Haven and West Georgia are all still transitioning and not yet eligible, and
Coppin State has been ruled ineligible by virtue of failing academic progress.

That was stated in my post. Those "ineligible" teams are not qualified to compete this year.

I guess Chicago State and NIU (Chicago State West) are still in the running for the Dance. Not holding my breath, though.:ROFLMAO:

hey- don't look now but Chicago State just went on a 3-game winning streak, and despite dropping their
last game they've won 4 of their last 6...

You never know with Chicago State. They did beat Loyola earlier this season. And a couple years ago they beat Northwestern, when they were ranked #25, and they beat Valparaiso for the second season in a row.

Loyola lost to both NIU and Chicago State in the same season and both were at home. Chicago State was winless against D-I schools, having been blown out by most of them. Loyola was their first D-I win. See what happens when Sister Jean is no longer Loyola's guardian angel? Loyola's not that far removed from their Final Four appearance, either. What an embarrassment.

Just 2 seasons ago Loyola tied for the A-10 title. So in just 2 years, they have gone from 1st to 14th. Quite a dramatic fall.

St. Louis was 24-1, undefeated & 12-0 in the A-10, #18 in the AP poll, and a NET of 17, and appeared to have a good chance to win out. They were beaten tonight by Rhode Island, an 10th place team with a 5-7 record in the A-10 and a NET of 137. The Billikins' chances at a good NCAAT seed just took a hit.

Miami of Ohio, the only remaining undefeated team in D1, won again tonight to go to 26-0
