Well, at least he doesn't have any ties or loyalties to Coach Les as far as I know...
Not saying I wont give the guy a chance, as I am extremely excited by this hire. However, it do find it a bit peculiar that after a nationwide search, a candidate with a history, albeit a limited one, with JG gets the nod.

Welcome to the real world guys! In most big hires there are usually some prior connection. It will be interesting to see what this guy can bring to the table. I have one concern and that is the ability to set a dynamic schedule. How much can or will he help us. Princeton does have a very healthy athletic program that has produced national championship teams in the past. I would assume he will bring some higher expectations to all athletic programs.
What do you mean with this statement, Braveman? Is it incorrect to refer to her as Dr. Glasser, or does she just prefer that the Dr. not be used?
She does have a doctorate degree (juris doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law), and I have heard her referred to as Dr. Glasser many times before.

She is not referred to as Dr. but rather Joanne Glasser, Esq. A JD is different and her Esq. comes from that. It is given to those who can practice law.
Doubters will always be around. Good thing they can be ignored.
First off, we have no idea if President Glasser really knows Dr Cross or not. Just being on a committee doesnt guarantee that. Unless I missed smething there. Great detective work though, we'll wait and see there.
Secondly-- let's be excited! We clearly did a large national search, got someone from an EXCELLENT school with good experience. It was never likely going to be a big BCS AD to move here, so I'd say this is pretty awesome. Unless you can give me reason to doubt or dislike this guy-- I'm pumped! Basketball background and high educational background. Love it!

Calling a lawyer a Dr. is a joke. It is not the same as a Ph.D. They can call it a Juris Doctorate, but that is not a real doctorate like a Ph. D. It is more like a Masters degree (which there is nothing wrong with that), but since lawyers have a highly developed sense of self-worth the powers that be decided to label their "Masters" a Juris Doctorate and it was just accepted that way by the public.
I would hardly call it not a "real" doctorate. It is very different, but that is inherent in different degrees. As a whole, law school is about the hardest school to get into. There are also ED's, MD's, DPT's, etc.
As far as it being like a masters, I'd say thats a good comparison, but not in the way you're describing. I almost went to Kellogg School of Business for my MBA when the economy went south, that MBA is far different than you can earn elsewhere, but they are still both MBA's. Many a colleague of mine (engineers, for reference) would argue a Bachelors in something like liberal arts or business isn't a real Bachelors degree, but they are by no means correct. Both are doctorates, a PhD does however grant you the right to be called Dr.
But, again, I have heard many people refer to her as Dr. Glasser, including many pages on the Bradley website. Check the google link above. I think she's OK with that.
Technically, anyone with any doctorate degree, regardless of what field it is in, can be referred to as Dr.

I have friends that are both CPA's and lawyers and they have said that the CPA exam was much more difficult than the Bar Exam. I would then question that their education deserves the title of Doctorate. A Ph.D., especially in an area like accounting, at a good school is a 5-6 year commitment AFTER a Masters has already been obtained. A Juris Docorate takes about half as long, if that. It's a matter of rigor and time. I will never acknowledge a Juris Doctoate as a Dr. because it just is not.
By the way, never ask an engineer... They think they know everything about everything once they have their degree. (Wink... Wink...) (Smiley site is down so I am winking the old fashion way). I've known too many of them and have had too many in classes I have taught and taken.
I think Dr. Glasser prefers mini mouse.....of course thats NOT the same as MIGHTY mouse but we all know there was only ONE Might Mouse.
Of course....there are different "mini's" as in Mini me...and the recently popular car called the mini cooper. There is also another version of the mini called the mini van.
Anyone can "aquire" one of THOSE mini's but they certainly don't have the same value and prestige that comes with the title of Mighty and mini the mouse's prefer to be called.
I took a mini-mester at BU thinking I would walk out of there with a new title....but Nooooooooo.....they said my previous credits didn't transfer becuase I played a few hours of Pro Golf in Europe with the Irish Golf team mainly just the 19th holes at a few courses.
Oh my....anyone got John Wilkins Lawyers number.

I would contend that point, but it's not too big of a deal.
I would agree in almost every way. I myself am an engineer (though many would call my field imaginary(or industrial) engineering), however I work on the business side of things, and in my vast years of experience, I am the only engineer who knows everything needed.

The new AD played BB and was an assistant coach, was at Michigan in compliance and as basketball grad assistant, and assistant AD at Princeton. He's played, coached a little bit, should know NCAA compliance, and has experience at an academically tough university.
Seems like he has a good background being a player, working at a Big 10 school's BB program, and working at an academically difficult university...
I'm excited and optimistic BU is giving him a chance to team up with JL...If JL is a lock to stay at BU for many more years as others have stated, I'd have to believe he was also involved in the interview process and hiring decision. Seems good to me

I like your post but I'd bet that JL had cursory involvement in this hire. This looks and feels like a pure JG hire. She will live or die by him and she knows it so why give anyone else the privilege. I hope he works out and gives us the ability to move up with the Gonzaga, Xavier and Butler's of NCAA basketball.
