New AD- Dr. Michael Cross

I like your post but I'd bet that JL had cursory involvement in this hire. This looks and feels like a pure JG hire. She will live or die by him and she knows it so why give anyone else the privilege. I hope he works out and gives us the ability to move up with the Gonzaga, Xavier and Butler's of NCAA basketball.

I hope he has amazing ability because the Xaviers, Gonzagas and Butlers of this current world do not lose home basketball games to Western Carolina.

I was hoping that VHB would get the job, but oh well.

Hopefully the new guy is not a short-timer looking at this as a stepping stone.

BU needs someone who understands the Peoria area, IMO

and why? A smart enough person can pick up what he needs to know about P-town pretty quick. You please the heavy hitters, keep the the P-town jokes to yourself and attend a few events. What else is there to know? I prefer someone who understands the national landscape and can work with the business leaders in the community.

has there been any statement whether VHB will stay on as assistant or is her job done there and is she out the door?

I have friends that are both CPA's and lawyers and they have said that the CPA exam was much more difficult than the Bar Exam. I would then question that their education deserves the title of Doctorate. A Ph.D., especially in an area like accounting, at a good school is a 5-6 year commitment AFTER a Masters has already been obtained. A Juris Docorate takes about half as long, if that. It's a matter of rigor and time. I will never acknowledge a Juris Doctoate as a Dr. because it just is not.

By the way, never ask an engineer... They think they know everything about everything once they have their degree. (Wink... Wink...) (Smiley site is down so I am winking the old fashion way). I've known too many of them and have had too many in classes I have taught and taken.
They also carry to many pens, pencils and crap in their shirt pocket:lol:

I am glad to see VHB stay. Hopefully we don't get a bunch of east-coasters filling up the Ath. Dept.

LOL Let me guess you are from Peoria and never left? There are plenty of folks here in the west coast that would say the same thing and they would include anyone east of the Mississippi which would include Peoria. There are great people everywhere.

I just hope we hired the right person regardless of where he's from. I'm not sure where you are coming from regarding east coasters filling up the Ath. Dept. There are different styles people tend to bring from areas but I'm hoping he brings a winning style regardless and fills in the open slots with winners.

I think Dr. Glasser prefers mini mouse.....of course thats NOT the same as MIGHTY mouse but we all know there was only ONE Might Mouse.

Of course....there are different "mini's" as in Mini me...and the recently popular car called the mini cooper. There is also another version of the mini called the mini van.

Anyone can "aquire" one of THOSE mini's but they certainly don't have the same value and prestige that comes with the title of Mighty and mini the mouse's prefer to be called.

I took a mini-mester at BU thinking I would walk out of there with a new title....but Nooooooooo.....they said my previous credits didn't transfer becuase I played a few hours of Pro Golf in Europe with the Irish Golf team mainly just the 19th holes at a few courses.

Oh my....anyone got John Wilkins Lawyers number.

Love it! Post of the decade:):D:-P! I love the pseudo intellectuals living behind there layers of stone and morter, insulated from reality.
I will take "street-smarts, like yours dog, anytime. And yes I have a degree, but I have found street smarts are far more useful..
Being from Buffalo is a good start. Plenty of street smarts to be acquired there.
Good luck Michael Cross.
Great satire, Dog!

I agree SFP. :) I would not consider someone from Buffalo an "east coaster". Buffalo people are probably more like Peoria people than we care to admit.

This guy sounds like a very good hire to me. He seems to fit all of the qualities that BU strives for. :)

True East Coaster's believe the US ends at the Hudson River.

Note this NCAA page shows both Dr. Michael Cross and Dr. Joanne Glasser serving on different NCAA committees. I suspect Dr. Glasser may have met Dr. Cross before, and gotten to know him through these NCAA committees.
http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?key=/n...committee+appointments/committee_appointments

I have learned that President Glasser did not know Dr. Cross before this search process, despite both serving in positions at the NCAA at the same time. They served on completely different committees, and were not acquainted with each other, so this was not a factor in her decision.

Playing the role of John Wilkins Lawyer will be Dr. Joanne Glasser, Esq.

Those are some pretty darn good programs to aspire to be as good as. I welcome Cross to the Hilltop and hope he does well for Bradley.

But getting back to those 3 programs....

In the last 5 years, those 3 teams haven't lost many games at home. Worst Non-Conference home losses in the RPI for those 3 teams in the past 5 years:

Butler - lost to #163 Indiana St in '05-'06 season
Gonzaga - lost to #113 Portland St in '08-'09 season
Xavier - lost to #77 Bucknell in '06-'07 season

Bradley's worst Non-Conference home loss based on RPI in the last 5 seasons goes to #54 VCU in the '07-'08 season.

After Western Carolina beat Bradley last night, they have moved up to #25 in the RPI this season. (I know it's early to look at the RPI right now - just as it is early to consider losing to Western Carolina as such a terrible loss right now)

Hopefully Dr Cross has some contacts/friends with ESPN from his time out east! BU can hardly make the ESPN score scrolls once a half hour!

Hopefully we don't get a bunch of east-coasters filling up the Ath. Dept.

Too late, it has already begun. :p
