New Bradley President selected

Judge Shadid has been a member of the Bradley Board of Trustees. And most notably, he chaired a subcommittee of the Board back in 2015 that was responsible for the corrective changes that were made that lead to a new University President and to the changes in the Athletic Department that may have saved Bradley basketball and Bradley Athletics. None of the successes that Bradley basketball and other Bradley sports have had in recent years would have been possible without the work that Judge Shadid and the others on the committee accomplished 10 years ago, including the hiring of Chris Reynolds and Brian Wardle.

I don't know much about him but seems like a good move. He seems dedicated and actually has connections to Bradley and Peoria.

I am perfectly fine with this pick. I don't always agree with Shaddid's politics, but I took a class he taught at Bradley in 07' and he seems very competent. Combined with his record as a judge, I think he will be a fine pick for the job. He is a Peorian and that counts for something as well.

I think Bradley’s downfall can partially be attributed to going outside the community to hire. When Bradley was at its strongest it was run by individuals who made Peoria there home and were in it for the long haul, not using it as a stepping stone to a bigger better opportunity somewhere else.

In an era when universities only hire executives after paying for job-placement consultants and outside search committees, I'm surprised they hired a townee. And very pleased. I assume the Board of Directors played a major part in choosing him over a "search-committee hire" like Standifird.

Bradley recovered nicely from the Glasser-disaster in just the 4+ years of Dr. Gary Roberts. New enrollment and freshman enrollment went from record lows (caused by Glasser) all the way to record highs, (additional LINK and LINK) - even during a span that was described by Glasser-apologists (like the PJS and Glasser herself) as impossible for colleges to maintain lofty enrollment numbers because of fewer high school grads, poor economic situations, online options, and more alternatives for people to choose from other than 4-year colleges.
Then it took Standifird just 2 years to shut down important curricula and wipe out the gains.

That article is from April, 2024, a year ago. Judge Shadid switched to "senior status" last September. That is a form of semi-retirement from his Federal judicial duties, though he officially retained his judgeship.

The BU President position has always been a full-time position, so most likely Judge Shadid will step down from his judicial duties, though I haven't seen that stated clearly anywhere.
