New pre-game meeting spot - 'The Fieldhouse'

I think most know that Bradley used to have a football team. If not the students on campus then I'd say probably all of the regular posters on this board do know. In case you are new you should know that there are some extreme old timers on this board haha. No offense of course to the old timers.

Doesn't Bradley sell BU Football shirts that say something like Undefeated since 1970 or something?

The blue and gold is for St. Marks Grade School on the edge of the Bradley campus. All of the owners either coached or attended St. Marks.

Wow I was a Patriot & the Marksmen were one of our biggest rivals when I was in grade school. Funny.

I don't object to the term "old timers"...it's the term "extreme" that I have a problem with! ;)

I also played against St. Marks when I was in grade school...back before St. Pat's in Washington joined the IESA. I will have to check out this place! :)

Anybody who ever played in the St. Marks Gym will never forget it. One of, if not thee smallest gyms in Peoria....I might head on over to the Fieldhouse for the game Friday night.

It was very small, but as I recall St. Bernard's Gym was as small if not smaller. I'm planning to be there tomorrow night.

Now you're talkin'. The St. Bernard's RED DEVILS! Smallest gym in Peoria. The 10 second line was the visiting team's free throw line. We never lost there. Come to think of it, we never played anyone there. Our games were played at the Spalding "gymnasium," where the ceiling was only about 12' high. Set shots, "kiss shots" ala Fred Schlictman and the weave. Head coach Dick Pretty, Diocesan championships ... priceless!!!

My alma mater St. Joseph had the long court, but also the narrowest. Out of bounds was only a foot from the wall. Played many a game at the Spalding gym on the main floor and don't remember it only having 12' ceilings. The older gym in the basement maybe.

was just there for the Bears game (Sigh) and it was PACKED. I ended up having to park all the way over near Save-a-Lot, but it was a great atmosphere. They have $3 23 ounce Coors Light Drafts (Same style as BWW) and some amazing food. I will be there for the game tomorrow and look forward to seeming some of you there!

Packed as in standing room only for all TV's or was their enough seats for everyone to watch and be able to hear the TV's? I'm still debating on whether to come here or just go up to Kouri's as i'm near Northwoods Mall.

I got there at 7 (20 minutes prior to gametime) and there were plenty of tables available in the back. Towards the middle of the game it was SRO, sound was good... had no issue hearing the game. PLENTY of tv's including several High Def projectors. Word of caution however, the tables in the back are picnic tables. So if you have a bad back, I would avoid those.

Also, with a bar in the front and the back... Getting booze was no issue.

Well, while we are throwing out our Catholic Grade School Alma Mater's, I went to Blessed Sacrament in Morton. My 8th grade year they installed a new floor in the St. Marks gym. It sounds like horses galloping when you are running on it.

Went here the other day after work to grab a beer and see what its like...

WOW. So much better than Gormans. And I loved that place. Definitely cleaner and with a little more class than before. Food was quick (tons of it, too!) and tasted great. Make sure to try their sweet potato fries... deeeeelish.

Great work, Fieldhouse!!

jeff-- I had the Blue Cheese Burger even tho they had a special on "The Thang"
(their version of a monster burger with everything) and mine was really super.
The entire time we were there, there was a guy filming with a big commercial-type video camera, but I didn't recognize him as with any of the local TV stations.
Personally I think it's a little annoying to be at lunch and have a guy roaming the place videoing you while you eat....but I suspect that was a one time thing and it won't deter me from returning.
While I was there, two men sat right next to us and the younger of the two asked the waitress if there was any discount for a BU grad that was over 100 years old...as his dad was the other patron at the table.
If the gal was smart, she'd have said sure and given him a lemonade or something, but she said no.

Bradleybrave.. Nice call on The Fieldhouse. I was there tonight and had a good time and meal. I hope that the owners make it even more of a Bradley bar by incorporating more BU memorabilia throughout that establishment.

Im new to these boards, and i am also a graduate of St. Bernards school! I am forced to defend our gym, because even though ours was the smallest, atleast it was wide enough, as st marks was skinnier than a back alley! ;-) I graduated the year before the school closed, good times..

I've never been in the St. Bernard's gym, but just curious...
does it at least have some room under the backboards?
The St. Mark gym has the backboards basically nailed to the walls at the end of the court and kids driving for a lay-up have to be careful or they'll crash into the wall...
Kids standing under the backboard grabbing a rebound runs the risk of being called for out of bounds if his foot touches the line.

Just a little FYI on the Fieldhouse....

Me and my better half went there last night before the game and they are now offering a shuttle service to and from the game at no cost for paying customers. The manager told us they have it booked for the rest of the season.

Yea, the hoops came out a few feet, but it definitly was not dramatic. The signature of St. Bernards gym was the balcony however. St B's was the home of the 6th grade diocesan tournament untill a few years back... I even think it hosted it the year after it shut down..???
