New Wessler piece

I am not a guy that wants to see JL go but BU has a lot going for it now and its time to become a MVC power year in and year out. Why cant we be the next Butler or Gonzaga?

* We are told we now have one of the best facilities for the players in the country.
* We have almost 11,000 fans at every home game (how many mid majors have that?)
* We have one of the best educational reputations in the midwest.
* We have tradition.
* We have a great home game facility.
* There is home grown talent in the Peoria area and you are sandwiched in between St Luis and Chicago.

I thought the facilities where the last reason for us not getting to the level we all wanted but thats fixed. We have everything going for us now, JL needs to make it happen in the next two years.

Well said...JL has done everything well except win. Time to move past the mediocrity....NOW is the time.

Haha, you guys act like its so easy. Creighton was everything you guys want. You don't care about NCAA wins, they're flukes. They consistently challenged for the MVC title, and they aren't even close to Butler or Gonzaga.

What do Butler and Gonzaga have in common? They're in crappy conferences. Let's join C-USA or something where we're unchallenged in conference and we could look a lot better.

I seriously don't know how people expect BU to be a powerhouse. When was the last time we regularly challenged for titles year in and year out? Before any current recruit was born. If you exclude times where the coach got run off by the NCAA? Before any current recruits parents were born.

I'm not saying we can't do it, but many of you act like its a given BU should be on top of the MVC, and that it's as easy as a coaching change. History has proven that just isn't true.

AMCKILLIP, I could not disagree more with what you posted. If you are right we all need to get over it and be happy with our current place in the MVC. You think the only thing Butler and Gonzaga have going for it is a poor conference? I would think that would hurt, not help?

I refuse to believe we cant do better than 4-5 in the MVC with what we have going for us. We can be a top level team year in and year out. You act like we are lucky to have any coach at all so why hold him accountable to win? Are you serious?

I want Jim to be the man at BU, but not at the cost of being the best that we can be. I still think he can get it done but I refuse to keep a coach because we cant do better..........

Amazing how it took 685 words to say absolutely nothing!

What was the purpose of this piece Kirk?! All you did was restate the obvious and, IMO, purposefully run this "hit piece" to elicit a strong negative response. Have some b@lls son and state your opinion if you want to write this kind of trash! Otherwise, you're just wasting the reader's valuable time!

I try to stay objective and give KW credit when it's due but this is complete garbage!!!!

I agree :) It is all old news, we had a pages long thread towards the end and end of last season giving out grades and opinions. So what was new in his piece, nothing that we haven't heard or said before. I hope this is a very good season for JL and his team because there are those, including me, that would like to see a change in playing style and substitutions and the use of more bigs (he just didn't have enough the last 2 years, now he does). I like JL and hope he gets it done. One thing that I've noticed since I started following BradleyFans.com is that the PJS gets most of its story lines from this site, think of something new and write about that.

What I mean by "tradition" is that we have a history of success in D1 basketball although it is old history. The love for Bradley basketball is still there and if we can win Bradley will have support unlike most mid majors would get. We are a basketball school and a basketball town. How many kids have signed with BU and said that they love the fact that Bradley and Peoria are all about basketball?

So are we saying we don't have to win because....

All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
All you need is love (all together now)
All you need is love (everybody)
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

The mvc season means nothing. If you win the conference season what do you get nothing but a NIT bid if you don't win the tourny. So why is everyone so worried about the MVC season?

If the mvct is all that matters, then let's forfeit the season and show up in St.Lou healthy and rested!

I very much agree! I thought that KW's last article regarding the Stowell situation was good. However, this article demonstrates that KW has reverted to writing garbage articles for space filler in the PJS!

I think that there are valid points in both of your posts. With the completion of the new facilities, I think that BU can return to being a perennial powerhouse in the MVC if the current administration handles things correctly. That should be ONE of our goals! I also do not believe that a coaching change at this time is the solution.

I think the current staff should at least be given a chance to recruit for 2 years with the new facilities since our current coach helped raise money to build them, I doubt our Pres. raised even close to the amount.

It depends on how you look at it. The best thing Glasser has going for her is that she's NOT Broski, he alienated a lot of people who were waiting til he was gone to donate. Then again, JG is starting to alienate her own group too... You know, people who care about the culture at Bradley...

Or any of the other men and women's sports coaches at BU? ;-);-)

Why limit it to BU - this seems to fit any D-1 university - just plug in the AD's name and the Head Coaches name. It's kind of a one size fits all article or a psychic reading.

Great point...... but this year's BU team is loaded with talent and experience -- NO excuses this year! Anything less than Top 3 in The Valley and an NIT bid is unacceptable.
