New Wessler piece

The press has "the right to free speech and freedom of the press".......:

agree -- that right also applies to people with opinions on message boards...

I also would have supported BU regardless of who was hired, and will whenever a change occurs again.
and don't think that this kind of unconditional loyalty goes unnoticed...it's the kind of support and loyalty that doesn't notice the scars.. ;)
Maybe a new coach wouldn't know who all of BU's best and most loyal fans are..but after he's been here a few years, Coach Les is smart enough and has a good enough memory to know exactly who are the fans....
...and it says he is aware of what is being said on the message boards, and he does "apprc support"

Coach Les takes the high road on twitter -- http://twitter.com/CoachJimLes

"Hav scheduled lunch w JStar staff tmrro..U haters relax on KW-promotes discussion in a slow Oct-doesnt change r focus any-apprc support tho!"

"U haters" = High road?

'Hate'/'Hating'/'Haters' are incendiary words that are overused today and should be reserved for much more serious topics/situations. Like the word 'disrepect', which causes me to throw up when I hear it in the context of sports, hate/hating/haters should be banned from sports discussions.

No one "hates" anyone with respect to BU MBB. No one "hates" JL. Some are not happy/satisfied with the results BU has had under JL, and, are open to change. PERIOD. Would I be happy for JL if he has more success at BU? Certainly.

Should I have called my former boss a "hater" when he gave me a less than desirable, or deserved in my opinion, performance review when I was working?

Public performance reviews come with the territory in sports, whether playing, coaching, or in ownership. JL is not volunteering for local rec league slow pitch softball. He is being compensated quite well to do what he is doing, and is not a volunteer. I am assuming the compensation assumes some level of success at the job one is doing.

Can't believe JL would be so naive to think college coaches would get unconditional love and loyalty from fans/administration in the absence of winning something.

I am sure if/when JL can not stand the heat anymore, he will get out of the kitchen.

As they say in the mob, its not personal....

ps the BU 'card girl' is Cameron Diaz...she was helping promote a car wash fundraiser in LA....Found the photo while verifying it was her in avatar pic in the car wearing next to nothing (IMHO one of the hottest pics ever on this Forum)....'Card Girl' retires later this afternoon when my wife returns from her trip to LA - I go back to my "Spike" avatar:badgrin:

Wow...so much common sense. Very well said. WHEN will some understand that we can all view performances with varying degrees of success/failure yet have the same goals and interests in mind.

GREAT post.

And I was just about to post my, "Should KW be fired?" poll :(

Well, at least the PJS is balanced by having provided some print space to this Friday's Hoopla on the Hilltop event. I haven't seen the article covering the festivities, but I'm sure its there since it is open to the public.

Don't remember anyone saying all anti-JL people were pro-WM people. But it was obvious back then that the JS preferred WM. I would have supported the program no matter who the new coach was, just as I alwas have since I've been a Braves fan. The JS staff, IMO, can't say that.

That's because of the final 3, he was the most logical choice for head coach. Jones had the best experience.

And again, I ask for any article that endorses WM for the job. There exist nothing more than pieces written about common sense. That is a far cry from what I'm asking.

I can respect your opinion, but just because a guy writes a piece suggesting Wayne McClain is probably the best option, does not necessarily mean that they were pro-WM. It would be substantially different if something was produced that said, "BU must hire Wayne McClain in order to remain relevant" which is what it sounds like when people say things like (paraphrasing) "PJS or KW are just bitter because WM didn't get the job" which at least 2 did in this thread.

It's kinda like one time at work, every one in the office got new chairs. But each person was to get the same chair. So, we had about 10 prototypes brought in. The department was all pretty well divided on which chair they wanted. But 1 of the 10 absolutely no one voted for. We joked at the time that would be the chair we all ended up with. And it was. But I grew to like my chair. So I'm not anti-chair just because I didn't get the one I wanted. That's not how it works.

Squirrel - you know what I found to be most amusing about the whole WM issue? Of all Bradley fans I talked to, some were in favor of WM and some were not. But EVERY Illini fan I talked to, they ALL thought WM shoulda been hired.

I have always taken the Squirrel approach...I think he says..."I support the local sherriff". Never had a preference for the BU coach. All bring various pluses and minuses.

I support JL 100% and hope like heck we win big this year....but I won't hesitate to voice my displeasure with certain aspects of the program.

Its like living in America...wouldn't go anywhere else but we, as a nation, certainly have scars.

Glad you remember that dogs. . .I remember us being in lock-step there. . .was going to post this too, but it didn't fit into anything I'd written yet, but it would've come out likely in this thread. Just beat me to it. Most people don't realize how big a defender of JL I was.

However, my vocal and emotional support and confidence in him basically ended in 2005. Even after 2006, I was on the fence. I was happy with the job done and I thought maybe, just maybe, the way that season turned around after yet further garbage we might have turned a corner.

He actually won me back in a big way after 2007. I thought we had an NCAA Tournament team, even though we didn't get the bid.

But the last 3 years have only proven to me as a coach, he hasn't progressed to what I deem acceptable for a DI coach. That is only my opinion.

I want him to be successful. I want BU to win the MVC Championship.

I do not care how that gets done or who is in charge.

I know a number of Illini fans and few of them cared. And most I talked to didn't exactly endorse McClain, either. But it would make sense locally he did have a lot of support. That's part of the reason why the media likely was perceived as being pro-WM. It could've been a good situation. We'll never know. But I never interpreted it that way.

I also think most people see and hear only what they want to see and hear. I like to think I'm pretty good at separating things. . .but I also realize I'm probably just as bad as everyone else.

And that, folks, is why people like you and me and squirrel DO NOT get to make these decisions. ;)

I will admit it probably appears I did a flip flop.

But I would point out I tried my best to be supportive. Even when I didn't think he was qualified. However, I do not allow myself to be fooled twice.

If a person says another person is the better man for the job I would think he is pro that person and would rather have that person on the job. I read the Urnal Star enough to form my opinon and that's all it is, my opinion.

Whenever someone writes 'hate,' my computer catches on fire. It's clearly incendiary and not meant in hyperbole.

OK I stopped reading after seeing Ben's avatar. You go boy. ;-) Oh btw I did read Dallas' post and I say put him on probation! I do not want to see anyone fired in this economic environment unless they are truly under-performing.

Why not just hang the baster:-P Thats right:-P Have all the KW haters on this site form a lynching party and T can be the rope man:-P Why call for firing him and wishing him all the bad luck in the world:-P Again just hang him like they did in the good old days and every thing will be good at BU and with JL, RIGHT:roll: All this because he writes articles without sugar coating it:roll: Wouldn't the reasonable solution be to just not read his articles (as some KW haters claim they do, BUT still some how know everything he writes) than to hang him high or wish him all the hate some want for him:? Can some one actually say they have heard KW or for that matter anyone from the PJS say they HATE BU and JL? Please step forward:!: Until that happens I will continue to read and use his and the PJS articles for information about BU:!:
Count me out on the lynching party and hate towards him or for that matter anyone:!:
