New Wessler piece

I think what most that were unhappy about that article is that it's old news that we all know. What I'd like to read is how Willie Scott feels after being with the players for several months with quotes, same with Coach Platt, I'd like to read some new articles on each individual player with quotes. It seems the only place we get some quotes is on their tweets, I know Will considers himself a forward and not a center, and saw the picture of the scale at 239lbs. So how hard would it be for the PJS reporters to stop by the campus and talk to the players and coaches individually and have some individual stories.

You obviously did not get the memo. The PJS doesn't have access to the Bradley staff and players.

For one month......

I vote we have a cease-fire on complaining about other fans and their behavior.

I vote we have a cease-fire on complaining about Kirk Wessler and his articles, past or present.

I vote we have a cease-fire on complaining about Jim Les and his accomplishments, past or present.

I vote we try to find some common ground without trying to cram our "Jim Les Stance" into every post we type.

I will do my part.....

This is my first post in this thread. Until now, I had decided to let others argue this out. I no longer care what columnists think, and stopped reading the PJ Star a while ago.
But to deny that KW's column was gratuitously negative is ridiculous. It focused almost exclusively on selected negative aspects of the program, and ignored anything positive about Jim Les' tenure as coach (and there is a lot positive). If KW had only examined more carefully the criteria that Dr. Cross himself listed for evaluating coaches, he would have had to acknowledge that Jim Les rated quite highly in most areas. To post a negative column at the start of the season like this, demonstrates a clearly defined anti-JL agenda, IMO. And as Air Petey said, it's a widely known fact.
I challenge anyone trying to defend the writer to show any other columnists in the MVC (or anywhere else) writing negative articles at this time of the season. It just doesn't happen.

And for posters to try to suggest there are fans with some kind of irrational, unwarranted hatred toward the PJS and their writers, then try to attribute all this onto tornado, when he has not even been among the most vocal in this thread, is in itself a bit irrational. Any animosity people have toward the local paper is well deserved. I am still waiting for the first article that actually reports something new about the team, the newcomers, the returning players, or the new coaches. There is a lot new there that fans would like to know more about, but I guess we have to get a few more "coach on the hot seat" type articles before we actually ever see any real reporting.

Ok, I am irrational at times, BUT not for the reason you suggest above:)
You see this past weekend I took a little trip to Tunica Miss. to play a couple rounds of golf and let my wife gamble a bit:roll: Before my first round, the starter told me he teamed me with two women from Oklahoma with a big smile on his face! Their game wasn't the best, as they were more interested in each other:roll: A lot of high and low 5's and lip locking went on:o Now my game is not the best but it was reality tested that day;-) But when it was all over they asked me back to their room to watch football. I declined because I first and for most am married and besides I knew I was going to be the football:-o Pretty rational thinking, I say:!:

Then I went to the casino where my wife was, listen to the band and drank some cold ones:D As I walked to see how my wife was doing, this good looking BIG and I mean BIG breasted young lady ran up to me and said how would you like to ride my cow:lol: Now I am not BSing you! I said COW? She said Bull, and pointed to one of those Mechanical Riding Bull's. I told her NO but there was a crowd and they start yelling do it, just do it! Next thing I knew she was helping me on it and people were putting money on me to ride it. Just crazy! Once on, she hit the 220 and my ass went flying. While on the mat I was booed by the people who lost money on me! Worst then that my wife was looking straight at me, shaking her head! So ya, DC, when it comes to BIG Breasted Women and fun, I am very irrational:lol:

I generally give them the answer they request, but I am also struck with how frequently they say this...
--Well, that's surprising, I hadn't heard that and never saw that in the newspaper!

So believe what you want, but there are plenty of folks who do WANT and starve for info but who note that the newspaper gives them virtually nothing until the "Hoops" insert shows up sometimes around the middle of November.

But T there's plenty of times where people don't see what's in the paper.
I read it everyday(I know a boring start to my day) and many times have missed stuff in there. If you miss the day it's there few people go back and read the paper.......although I will admit I do save them and read them when I get back from vacation.......ok...enough with the laughing:D

Last I looked KW is a COLUMNIST and not acting as a REPORTER. The difference between the two should be recognized. While reporters should deal with the facts in a story, a columnist has more leeway to also publish their opinions, and is not under some kind of restraint to be impartial. Ref PA in the PJS!

The PJS Sports Page is a combination of reporters and columnists. You may choose to agree with KW or disagree with him, chose to label him a hit man or not.

He is just doing his job...getting people to read and comment on his material in the PJS.

Similar to his predecessor at the PJS who ripped Mo and BU unmercifully. Too bad the Forum wasn't around then to villify him and get Mo's back!

MOVE ON:!:

I was waiting for someone to take the bait. A columnist to you can say whatever they want? Wikapedia "A columnist is a journalist who writes for publication in a series, creating an article that usually offers commentary and opinions. Columns appear in newspapers, magazines and other publications, including blogs."

He is a journalist and should be held to journalistic standards. If he just said I do not like JL and this is why, I would have a bit more respect then hiding behind his paper. He seems like a real petty person IMO with more then likely low self esteem. Be a man, step up and state your opinion. Imagine that!

+1

But T there's plenty of times where people don't see what's in the paper...

so....how does that go with the fact that the local paper hasn't done one single piece talking about this year's BU team, the upcoming season, and covering the #1 sports topic that this city has pretty much year round??

At least we got a little coverage of John Wilkins this morning! ;)

It doesn't really......I just meant that people do miss things in the paper.
Practice starts soon....so how much is going to be said that would be new?
It's kind of the reason I don't do much here until the season gets underway unless something NEW and/or controversial comes up.
Seems to me that Bradley Basketball gets their fair amount of coverage.....some people think it's only the negative that comes up others don't....Like I said before, we all have biases and can read the positive or negative spin based on how we feel about the writer or paper

It is? Based on what, exactly?

Come on dude, name the last breaking BU story this site didn't have first? Ya know, save John Wilkins commiting to Iowa State, the PJStar sure scooped everyone on that piece.

If your going to tear down this board at least go to valley talk or the pjstar. Granted, only three people will read it, because one is deceased and the other gets no traffic... But they're havens for people who know how truthfully terrible this well moderated, heavy-trafficed, and generally popular board is.

That's the same with any topic......not just BU basketball. The internet has changed the scope how info is released....I don't expect any newspaper to release info before it's already found out online.

Haha, well then you've made my point. BFans is timely and accurate, the PJStar is not. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Please show me where I have torn down this board? Ever?

Unfortunately, missed the free throw.

KW did not do anything that Columnisits featured on the Editorial Page of the PJS, including the Nationally Syndicated ones, do all the time. Very few of their columns display the Journalistic standards you desire either.

Announcement:
I would like the "coverage" and talk to be about the Braves...and I am only going to discuss the Braves if I can control my temptations to veer off track...

I am not anxious to see all the coverage be about the coverage or the lack thereof...
just discussing the coverage or lack thereof gives the so-called coverage more coverage than it deserves..
