News: John Wilkins files injunction against the NJCAA

I'm taking the glass is 1/2 full approach with this but then again since we have no control I'm not sweating it anymore. I hope he knows how much we want him to be a Brave but if decides to go elsewhere that will be his problem. I for one though have not heard anything from the young man that would indicate that he would go against his promise earlier. I bet he'llbe in Peoria next year with his brother at his side with WE and his sibling.:-P

Update from Dave Reynolds...

http://pjstarpeoria.com/bradleyhoops/pressrow/2009/12/22/no-ruling-yet-on-wilkins-case/

Now lets all dissect this update, especially the last line (???John??™s doing fine,??? Carroll said. ???The best thing he can do is keep his grades up and graduate (in May) so he can have his Division I eligibility.???) and that it doesn't mention "Division I eligibility so he can go to Bradley..."

;-)

Glad to see DR is following up though... and finding out when it went to the judge.

Read into it???? Nothing there really except that JW is practicing with the team and he seems to be on track.

yeah-- but a simple statement as innocuous as "John Wilkins woke up this morning"
is often followed by panic because he didn't say he was signing a LOI...

Yeah I feel like we were going through such a stretch when he verballed to us... Could just be my memory playing tricks on me.

Now lets all dissect this update, especially the last line (“John’s doing fine,” Carroll said. “The best thing he can do is keep his grades up and graduate (in May) so he can have his Division I eligibility.”) and that it doesn't mention "Division I eligibility so he can go to Bradley..."

I'm still dissecting these quotes from November....

What he said...

"When asked if he was still interested in eventually coming to BU, Wilkins said he was.

What I heard...

Sure I'm interested but I haven't received any better offers yet so BU is my number one choice

What he said...

When asked if he had interest in any other school, he replied, "Not at this point."

What I heard...

Not yet...I am still waiting to see if I get better offers from a "major" program.

I guess my point is both of his responses are very open ended if you ask me. He could have simply just said "I'm going to Bradley" instead of "I'm still interested" or "I have no other interest in any other schools...I will be going to Bradley"

I want JW to be a Brave as much as everyone else does but I still have many doubts. I hope he proves me wrong.

GO BRAVES!

flashback -- despite almost another 5 years has passed since the BU, then NJCAA ineligibility ruling against John Wilkins - this rule has never been enforced in a similar way against any other juco athlete since -- even tho we know many of them have played various club ball overseas...
In fact - several of ICC's soccer players have done precisely what Wilkins did and the NCAA never even checks into it...

Just this morning - another kid was ruled ineligible by NCAA for club league play but skeeted right thru NJCAA without a problem...
The other nite I chatted with Flash Flanagan at the BU game and he told me there was definitely more to this story than a simple ruling of ineligibility at Bradley then at Southeast Iowa CC.

I have heard of rumors that the decision by the NJCAA (the junior college athletic governing body) was some sore of payback to Southeastern Iowa CC for something.
