I hate to bring this up again, but there were some very knowlegeable posters here and on other boards who thought Jim Whitesell was a great up-and-coming coach who was on track for tremendous success at Loyola. Some even said Bradley should dump Jim Les after his first 3 seasons and hire Whitesell.
Whitesell did have some limited success his first 3 years with all the players he inherited from the previous coach Larry Farmer, especially 3-time 1st team All-Horizon player Blake Schilb. Still, they never came close to playing in postseason.
But these past 2 seasons, with his own players, Loyola has been bad. Last year, they did not even have a winning record at home. They have yet to play in a postseason tournament under Whitesell, though he seems to still have good support among the administration and fans. Their home attendance this season is only 1,771, which is down from last season's average of 2,270.

Loyola record under Coach Jim Whitesell-
2004-2005 13-17, 8-8 (6th seed in Horizon League)- RPI 219
2005-2006 19-11, 8-8 (4th seed in the Horizon)- RPI 138
2006-2007 21-11, 10-6 (4th seed in Horizon)- RPI 101
2007-2008 12-19, 6-12 (8th seed in Horizon)- RPI 222
2008-2009 14-18, 6-12 (8th seed in Horizon)- RPI 214

the Loyola message board is kinda funky...first - there's not a mention of the upcoming game in Peoria
and it's only 2 days away...then some of the posters appear to have embedded advertisements
in their posts, like having an avatar.....is someone making $$ on this?
Is this a way to stimulate people into posting more if they make $$ on each post?
How's that for an idea?

What is BU's practice schedule during finals week? Is there going to be any problems with game preparation since hopefully the team was studying for the school work and not Loyola?

From Les on the radio this AM, I know they had practice on Sat and a film session today. I'm sure they've done more, but he talked abou that specifically... Anyone else?

I believe after the WCU game they were to take a few days off 3? to study. I would suspect that Loyola is on practically the same schedule.

Les also said that they were going to work in some more plays to get Will the ball more.It actually was the best Mon. show of the season because it was just Jim and Dan.

NO...I haven't had anytime to review film OR practice, to busy with Xmas parties and shopp....oh...you mean the team....sorry, I don't have anything to report.

Hmmmm...more plays for the Bigs....the "Merf" hangover. :)

Sophomore Jordan Hicks, a 6'6" wing player who Bradley recruited out of Mayo High School in Rochester Minnesota, missed Loyola's first 7 games while rehabbing an Achilles injury. He played in his first game for Loyola last Saturday against San Francisco, and scored 3 points and had 1 rebound in 9 minutes. He will likely play against Bradley, but will probably come off the bench for limited minutes tonight. I would expect the same starting lineup that Loyola has started in all 8 games so far.

Jordan Hicks came on strong through the season last year, and had some great performances down the stretch...
including averaging 13 ppg/5 rpg/ and 55% from 3-pt over the final 1/3 of the season, and had a 23 pt game at Butler and a 20pt/7 reb game in their Horizon Tourney game!

So everyone thought he'd be a starter and big contributor this year...too bad he had an injury...

Despite his record, this is a team we should not take lightly. I think we win pretty easily tonight, but they will play hard and we can't come out with half an effort, which we usually don't.

Also, Whitesell would have been in the postseason in 2007 had the CIT been around that year. Maybe the previous year as well. I think he will do better this year, but again I think Bradley is the better team by far right now.
