NIT- Bradley gets NIT bid- will play Dayton in Carver Arena, Wed. March 18, 8:00 pm on ESPNU

Wow, what a stroke of good luck. Maybe Bradley's history of drawing great crowds for NIT games did help Bradley a little, by getting assigned a 1st round home game with Dayton.
but the NIT says there's no "luck" involved, and teams get no special treatment.
They give a complicated set of rules that they supposedly follow to seed the teams that are selected and
who accept the bids, into a list of 1 thru 32. Then they consider teams in the same conference and also
"geographical considerations" - and then the matchups involve the highest seed getting the lowest in each
region, the 2nd highest gets the 2nd lowest, etc.
They claim they don't look for special matchups or give extra consideration to teams with big fan bases.
Here's their selection and seeding rules

That page you are using as a reference is an old page, and no longer the factors that are used now.
Note that page makes no reference to the 7 metrics that are now used- BPI (ESPN), Kenpom, KPI, NET, Strength of Record, Torvik, and WAB (Wins Above Bubble).
Here are the current selection protocol that have been used since 2024.

These four teams will be provided the opportunity to host first-round competition. Each of the top 12 conferences, as determined by the KenPom ratings per the data released the morning of Sunday, March 15, 2026, will receive one exempt bid. The bid will be granted to the team in each conference with the best "KNIT" score. These12 teams will be provided the opportunity to host first-round competition.
AUTOMATIC BIDS-
Automatic bids will be granted to conference regular-season champions that have a "KNIT" score of 125 or better per the data released the morning after the completion of the respective conference’s regular-season competition.
AT-LARGE BIDS-

The committee selects the best available teams to complete the 32-team field

The KNIT referred to above is a term the NIT uses for the compilation of the other established rankings to judge a team's merit. - BPI (ESPN), Kenpom, KPI, NET, Strength of Record, Torvik, and WAB (Wins Above Bubble).

Exempt bids and Automatic bids are selected by a defined process.
But note the last line- AT-LARGE BIDS- The committee selects the best available teams to complete the 32-team field.
The at-large bids are not defined the same way. There is still subjectivity used in selecting at-large teams, and assigning matchups.

Here are a couple other links explaining the new selection process-
