Obscene ISU cheers banned by administration

here's a guy calling for more technicals on crowds for the things they chant...

T. I would be totally opposed to calling T's on the crowd for what they yell. If the officials were able to pick one or two out the arenas and have them removed that would help. Don't do it at a timeout. Stop play when no one is attemping to score and have them remove by security in front of everyone. That would be more productive than a fan getting a T and possibly making a difference in a game. No fan should EVER decide who wins or loses. Thats how I think it should happen. It works in HS games and it can help on the college level also.

I have resurrected this thread, because of some incidents in last night's televised game between Indiana and Maryland...

The Indiana fans were so obnoxious and foul mouthed, they got called out by the IU coach...
for this, I admire Coach Crean!

also during one discussion in the 2nd half between Maryland's Gary Williams and referee Jim Burr...you could plainly see and also vaguely hear (as the mikes picked it up) that Gary was repeatedly cursing directly into Burr's face....
"BULLS**T, BULLS**T, BULLS**T"

"Despite the high energy from the Hoosier faithful, Crean nearly took the PA announcer Chuck Crabb's microphone
late in the second half following vulgarities shouted from select IU fans toward the Maryland team. After being
calmed by two referees, Crean returned to his team's huddle, but pleaded his case with the Indiana fans following the game.

"We can cheer against the other team, but we never use vulgarities against an opponent," Crean said.
"That is not what happened at Indiana in the past and it certainly is not going to happen under my watch.
But I love our fans. I loved the energy they brought tonight. We did not match the energy of our fans,
but at no point in time will vulgarities in that crowd ever be accepted."

Here are a few comments about the chants...
"I am disgusted at what they did last night. It's ironic because Maryland has one of the most crass student sections in the country.
I can live with some profanity because college kids are dumb and that's to be expected.

But chanting, "USA" to Jin Soo Choi? That's unforgivable.
"Go back to Cuba" to Vasquez? Another ugly slur (and shows incredible stupidity since he's from Venezuela).

But Crean also said he was disappointed in the fans’ profanity. At times they shouted “a**hole,” as well as
“go back to Cuba” for senior guard Greivis Vasquez and “USA” chants for Jin Soo Choi, the South Korean forward for the Terps.
There were also chants of “still a pu**y” for Vasquez."

Isn't that an Unsporting Technical Infraction?

Yup, Rule 19, Section 5, Article 2, c.
"Bench personnel committing an unsportsmanlike act including...
..Using profanity or language that is abusive, vulgar, or obscene.
and also a. Disrespectfully addressing an offical..."

it's Gary being Gary

The refs have the authority and power to call a "T" against the crowd and I wish they'd grow a pair and step up and do it when called for. Racial slurs from the student section are intolerable.
