One MVC game Monday, Dec. 1

UNI starters barely play as UNI blows out Coe 99-34
Their deepest subs who had only seen 3 min per game, played 26 minutes.
Musta been fun for the couple hundred fans who were actually in attendance.IMG_4988.jpeg

Note that UNI sophomore center Will Hornseth played only the first 3 minutes of the game. He reportedly fell awkwardly going for a rebound, left the game, and did not return. He was replaced by Chase Courbat in the 2nd half starting lineup. There has been no report on his condition. He was coming off the best game of his UNI career in their last game, a 63-60 loss to Tulsa, UNI's only loss of the season. He had a game-high 16 points and 6 rebounds against Tulsa and was named UNI's Star of the Game.
 
Coe's "bright spot" was Zach Strauss who had 13 points in 16 minutes. The rest of the team, a total of 19 players played, appeared lost; 12 of the 19 who played didn't score (most of these 12 played less than five minutes). This is from the box score as I know ZERO about Coe.
 
I watched the replay of it - he knocked knees with another guy. He stayed in for another possession and then they pulled him. He ran off under his own power. Didn't look that serious and more of a "why would we chance it" moment.

They probably didn't want to aggravate the injury in this game, which was a glorified practice, and make sure he's 100% for upcoming "real" games.

Another example of the declining attendance in college basketball.... St. Louis is having a good season, so far. They are 10-1, and getting votes for the Top 25. Last night, they beat Bethune-Cookman 112-53 in a non-conference game in their campus arena. Attendance was announced as 4,097, but fans noted that far fewer people appeared to actually in be in attendance. They are officially averaging 4,677, but just a few years ago, they averaged close to 10,000 fans per game.

I used to live in St. Louis and I never could understand why the community wouldn’t support basketball. It was superior in support of baseball, hockey and soccer. Another resident and I would go to the old Checker Dome to watch Moses Malone with the St Louis Spirits. We met Rod Thorn, general manager at a pizza restaurant after a game. He asked our opinion as to why we attended and why the community would not support basketball. Maybe it was racial as St Louis was and still has a reputation for being highly segregated

Southern Cal left the Pac-12 and joined the Big Ten
They are having one of their best seasons - they are 11-1 and have a couple NBA-caliber players...
Weather is never a problem and they sit smack dab in a metro area of over 13 MILLION people!

and yet here is their attendance at tipoff of their last game - can't be more than 100 people there
Their home attendance ranks 18th in an 18-team Big Ten, and would barely rank 5th in the MVC
