OT - Financial

Ask John McCain.

He said conservative not MAVERICK!

Let's face it that our political parties are at the mercy of two energized extremes and until the idle middle becomes a bit more engaged the media will continue to paint us as a polarized nation. I believe most people would label themselves independents because neither party truly matches their values.

Also on another area that is painful for someone who believes in capitalization and free market economy, is having the guys with a socialist agenda along with the media saying that it does not work. What did not work was the government's lack of enforcement "teeth" in the already large regulated financial market. It is so easy to say that there were not enough regulations but in fact if they policed those regulations that are in the books and reported what should have been reported then 1/2 this mess would have been avoided. So let's just go to the other extreme because the hysteria of the masses are asking for it. In a few years because we will add to the burgeoning regulation already in the books, the people will say that it is killing our ability to compete and then we'll re-write it and go way to the other side.

There are two things I believe we needed to do in order to help our economy get back on it's feet. A new simple tax code that is fair for everyone where you do not need an accountant or an attorney to do your taxes. What a waste of time and resources! Educate the masses and media that it is not the large businesses that keep this country going but the SMB market and that the government should if anything figure out a way to make these businesses flourish.

I'm all for a consumption tax so that we don't have to "do" taxes at all.

So am I if basic food, shelter and clothing are not taxed! We just would need to make sure that our working poor and retirees are not over burden with paying a higher percentage of their earnings into taxes. I also like a flat line tax! We will never see it because special interest from tax specialists would lose their income. The more complicated the better!

The best plan I've seen for making sure a consumption tax doesn't kick the poor or those on fixed incomes is a monthly rebate check to every citizen that is equal to the value of that tax that would be taken out of 100% of poverty threshold.
