Ok everyone...I'm trying to make my wife feel better about the water we got in our basement. I know we can't be the only ones in P-town with a little bit of dampness.

Your participation will be much appreciated by a pair of first time home buyers.
 
Just had a major construction project completed late summer. Part of it was to deal with a basement that always got water. So far we are dry. Can't think of a better test than this.
 
My basement is so humid I feel like i have to slice through the air, however so far the walls are just seeping. But I am emptying the dehumidifier bucket every hour, lol

Same as New Guy, we just had a our backyard re-graded so water would run off away from the house instead of into the basement. This was just completed 3 weeks ago, so I guess we got lucky with the timing...we are completely dry, but we've had to empty our dehumidifier every 8-12 hours the past 3 days.
 
We have a little water in our basement. Enough for puddles and such. It usually only happened about once a yr the last few yrs when the ground was frozen but 10.5 inches of rain in 3 days will bring water in also lol. Due to some technical issues, we can't have someone grade our yard or install a de-watering system without spending 3+ thousand dollars. That just not happening with me still spending thousands at BU. As for other people getting water in there basements, I know Peoria Fire got at least 50 calls of flooded basements during that downpour Saturday evening. People calling left and right for water gushing into there basement and getting near electrical outlets. Most of them had 6-12+ inches of water. I know over the weekend, Swords Hall, Burgess, Baker and Geisert Cafeteria all had major flooding. Almost all the buildings had a ceiling leak or 2 in them though. Just no where for that water to go to and it finds every little opening it can get into.

I had 8.2 inches of rain in my rain gauge since it started Thursday afternoon.

I had over 8 inches of rain along with 90+ mile per hour wind for well over 8 hours along with no electricity for over 2 days.

But no water in the basement... but then again there no basements in Texas :)

Thanks Houston...I hope you didn't feel like I was trying make light of the situation down on the gulf coast. I've some friends down there that weathered the storm and were lucky enough to not have a power loss (they did lose the backyard fence though).

My prayers go out to everyone thats been effected.

Its sure made a mess of things every where it went...my cousin called from up in Chicago. Seems that the sewers in his neighborhood were so full of run off that they backed up into his brand new town home. Fun Fun.

Absolutely not any feeling of you making light of whats going on down here. There are a several BU fans down here in Houston so I hope everyone is making it through Ike.

Not losing power is important, we lost it and it was miserable in the heat but I have it back now. Others especially in the really hard hit areas south of Houston who could be without power for up to 4 weeks.
