Pac-10 Looking to Expand?

BYU and Utah will be added. Those are my picks! Every school in the Pac 10 is paired up with a rival within their vicinity so that will not change and the NCAA will be really happy that Sen. Hatch will be off their backs!

That would definitely make the most sense. Wonder how the MWC would respond.

I believe Utah would be a lock to join the Pac 10. They probably produce some of the most revenue in the MWC. I guess the next logical choice would be BYU as long as the PAC 10 is interested in adding a private school. They currently do not have any private schools as members of the conference. If they went with a public state school, UNLV, New Mexico, and San Diego State would probably be next. And don't forget about Nevada. They are currently in the WAC but they have very competitive revenue producing sports. And maybe Boise State as well. They have been a powerhouse in football and have attracted plenty of attention. Their basketball program has not been terrible recently.

What's Stanford? It's a huge private school with an endowment of over $12 Billion.

I think Colorado would listen if the Pac-10 approached them.

Just sayin'

Colorado turned them down last time and so did Texas. I bet you this time they would listen. I have a feeling there will be a few Big XII schools being poached from more then one conference.

I believe Colorado would lose money to make that change. I think they have to spend 6 million to get out of the Big 12 and the Pac 10 has less revenue to share than the Big 12. I am not positive on this, but I think their budget would drop by around 10 million the first year in the Pac 10. I don't think it will happen, but weirder things have happened.

I agree that BYU/Utah could be added but I wouldn't count out UNLV/Nevada. Both schools are in the vicinity, create an instant rivalry, and have been very successful over the years.

Here are the current rivalry matchups:

Cal/Stanford
Arizona/ASU
Oregon/OSU
Washington/WSU
UCLA/USC

While BYU/Utah would be a rivalry I don't think that BYU would fit the Pac Ten outside of basketball. UNLV and Nevada on the other hand would be perfect fits.

BYU and Utah make good football fits as well.

And more so than any other league, I think in the Pac 10, you need to be good across the board in your entire athletic department. I think BYU and Utah comes closest to that among the contenders.

I'm poking around on ESPN Insider, and it's absolutely blowing up with speculation on so many different moves. I can't repost such content for obvious reasons, but the general schtick:

1) Colorado is in play
2) The MWC, according to its commish, is already being proactive and has contingency plans
3) The Big 12 may end up being the one raided

Pretty much what I'm seeing on other sites! I've even heard that Nebraska and Colorado could move on over to the Big X together.

Moving to The Big X would be Pitt, MO, KS, CO, NE!

Texas approached both the Big Ten and Pac-10 previously in the very early 1990's, but neither league was interested. Once the BXII was formed by 1995 there interest was over and a moot point.
