Patrick O'Bryant to start for Celtics tonight

Nice job POB. Great to hear his Celtic debut went well. I wish I would have flipped on NBA TV last night to watch it.

I'm happy for POB as well. It is only one game though. It will be interesting to see how the Celtics use him when Allen,Garnett, and Pierce play 40plus minutes a game

I don't think it will make much difference when Allen, Pierce, and KG play 40 plus minutes a game. They do not play his position. When KP comes back from injury though, his minutes will go down. Overall, I don't think it will make a difference in HOW he plays, maybe just how much.

Playing time no....stats yes. those guys will limit opportunities

I watched the game tonight. POB turned in an impressive performance. He looks really, really good when he is out there. With the starters, he did not get any one offensive opportunities, but he played great D, kept balls alive and played great team ball. Later in the game, with the 2nd/3rd string they fed the ball into him and he smoothly slipped in 3 baby hooks ... they literally could not stop the shot when they gave him the ball down low. He blocked some shots, made FTs, and looked really, really good (did I already say that :) )

Bradley Nation ... rest assured ... POB is on a good team and is going to get playing time because he is a very good player. I already thought Nellie was an a$$ based on his years in Dallas ... now I have confirmation by dint that he let POB go from Golden State ... bad for GS, good for Boston and POB.

Heh. Not sure if this is best Celtics message board out there. But some comments from Celtic fans who were able to view the game. Apparently, POB continues to play well.

I am not sure which Celtic board is the best, but I started posting on Celtic Nation message board. There is a three page thread titled:
How Good can Patrick "O'B" be? Overall, there are some nice comments about POB there.

I am trying to get the people on Celtic Nation to call Patrick POB as we do on this board.;-)

Patrick now has his own page on Wikipedia.com

The Celtics play the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight in Pittsburgh in an exhibition game, and their starting center, Kendrick Perkins returned to full workouts in their practice yesterday, and Coach Doc Rivers said Perkins will start tonight. That means POB will come off the bench after 3 straight starts.

It looks like the Celtics game tonight will be on NBA TV @ 6:30 p.m. (central) or 7:30 p.m. (eastern). It'll be interesting to see how Patrick can play off the bench.

I think their is some sort of mental issue that POB has when coming off the bench. He did great when starting the first 2 preseason games, did great in the development league when starting, did great at BU when starting but he has struggled mightily when coming off the bench in the NBA. Specifically his fouls. His stats for the last 2 games when coming off the bench for Boston are below...

23 minutes played, 2 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, 1 block, 1 turnover and 6 fouls. 3 of those fouls were in 6 minutes played tonight.

Confidence level, preperation, lack of energy from sitting on the bench to long, I just don't know? Maybe Boston can find a way for POB to start and see how it goes cuz I have a bad feeling about how he'll do when coming off the bench.

Jason

Yeah, I hope he can work it out. Fortunately, since he had the great first few games, the Celtics coaching staff know he can be better. The skill and talent's there. Mental issues can be overcome.

I doubt right now that the Celtics will start him over Perkins unless Perkins just has a huge slump. He was their starting center in their championship season.

I didn't see the game, but based on the boxscore, it looks like POB played pretty well off the bench tonight: only 2 points, but 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in 14 minutes.

4 blocked shots ... that's very impressive.

I think the celtics are better with POB at center than Perkins. POB covers the middle on D much better.

Just wondering out loud a little from what I have seen or not seen for that matter.. I watched the first half of the Celtics-Knicks game last night, and POB was on the bench. I watched the second half of the Celtics-Nets game the other day and POB again was on the bench with 3 fouls... It seemed to me as if the Celtics were giving Big Baby Davis more time with the starters/second team...
