I'll re-post this on another thread

FACT:
Rebounding the last two seasons (since BU moved to a guard-heavy offense)

OPINION:
I think we'll see a similar trend next season.
 
No argument here unless we find someone that just loves to rebound and is around 6'8" 250 lbs. Now on the other side I expect us to win in other catagories, steals, turnovers, fg. pct and simply out hustling the other team. Will it make up for our rebounding deficiencies? I bet if we win the other battles our record will be pretty darn good.
 
What trend do you speak of? You only have two data points, so is your point that we will continue to be out-rebounded or that our rebounding has improved and will continue to do so, because in 06-07 we were out-rebounded by 238 boards, while in 07-08 we were out-rebounded by 64 boards.

Well, your trend line from the 2006-07 to 2007-08 seasons says that the gap is closing - i.e., things are getting better.

I agree we need a bigger line-up than what has seen the floor for the last two years. If AT and DC get a combined 45+ minutes a game along with meaningful minutes (20-25 minutes) from SS, RA, and WE, then I think BU can hold their own, if not control, the boards next year ... at least in conference play.

The trend I was referring to was BU getting out-rebounded again. Sorry for not being clear about that. Yes, the gap closed this year, but how many times were people frustrated by not being able to get a rebound at a critical juncture?

Like SFPete said, there are a lot of other statistics to take into account that could make up for that. And I expect BU to be better than most teams in FG percentage, 3-pt percentage, turnovers and TO/assist ratio. Will that be enough? We'll see.
 
AT should be a good rebounder because of his height and length, rebounding is also about desire,hustle, and the understanding of knowing the direction of where a missed shot is headed. I believe we will be ok as far as rebounding next season.

Exactly what I was thinking....If you are speaking in terms of trends then that bodes well for Bradley. The difference between the two seasons mentioned is about 3 boards both ways which is a 6 or 5 rebound swing. If this "trend" continues then Bradley will average around 36 rebounds and opponents will average 32 or 33, which, needless to say, I'd be very happy with.
 
If the statistics are broken down in 3 categories which cause possession changes:

Tournovers
BU caused 572
Opp 534
difference +38

Steals
BU 297
Opp 231
difference +66

Offensive rebounding
BU 407
Opp 432
Difference (-25)

The biggest issue I have with the offensive rebounding is that most occur within a scoring opportunity, giving teams more then one opportunity at points in one possession. The difference in turnovers and rebounding pretty much washes each other out. What I would really like to know is how many of the TO/steals and offensive rebounds lead directly to a made basket.

My guess is a higher majority of the offensive rebounds lead directly to more points.

BTW those of you in Peoria might want to check out a Volleyball game this season if anything for the new assistant coach... very nice hire :)

Which one of those would you eliminate from the team so you could replace him with a better rebounder?

If Bradley had someone else who could have gotten a couple extra rebounds a game, he would have to replace someone else in the lineup.
If the coaches did that, I would wager that the same people who complain about a rebounding differential of 1.7 rebounds per game, would instead be complaining that Bradley doesn't score enough.
 
Even the great Duke Blue Devils were nearly outrebounded this past year (1371-1367)...................

I wouldn't have wanted any of those people eliminated from the team. We have to score in order to win games, too. We were plenty big enough to be a decent rebounding team. I just wish the staff, the players themselves, or whoever would just have placed more of an emphasis on rebounding fundamentals...but that never seemed to be the case, for whatever reason.
If Les and his staff would have spent a tenth as much time teaching his kids how to block out and making rebounding as much of a priority as he did his precious 'deflections', we might not have gotten mauled on the offensive boards like we did this year. Hopefully it was a valuable learning experience for the staff and the players that will help them all for next year. We'll see.
 
Yeah, our rebounding is fine. So is our defense. So is our conference record the last 7 years. So are our conference championship banners the last 12 years. Everything is fine. Why are we even bothering to tear down the fieldhouse? It was a perfectly acceptable facility in this day and age.

I just wish the rest of the MVC went back to like they were in the early 90's and maybe we could easily win the thing and get an 8/9 seed in the NCAA and get an early exit.

Those guys hustle and I like all of them. But ... we have missed going to the NCAA the last two years. We need to improve our rebounding. The height stats that Ken Pomeroy published this year in the tournamet issue of SI provides strong evidence that if you want to dance with authority, get some height ... and play it.

Maybe you might want to check your math here again.
To me that looks like a difference of just 25 offensive rebounds (not 64) for the season- in 38 games. That's less than 2/3 of an offensive rebound per game difference. And the total rebounding differential was a whopping -1.7 per game. Not exactly being "mauled". This is just another example of the massive hyperbole that we constantly see from the bashers of this team.
 
Just to be clear. I think next year could be a better year than the last two and we have an outside chance of making the NCAA ... I really beleive it. We will have the most balanced team since our Sweet 16 run. The coaches have a lot to work with.

My concern with a lack of height has more to do with 2009-10 and beyond. That lack might be addressed in next year's recruiting class by adding a juco.
 
With Collins and AT starting and sending in RS and SS and WE....we will not have a rebounding issue next season.....

Then the next with AT and WE and a Juco big man and an impact big 4 year player.....

just dreaming in type ;)
