Pictures of the New Carver Arena scoreboard...

FINALLY!

Honestly this is what has me most excited about the upcoming season.

Cmon BB, you and I share lots of the same sentiments about the state of the BU MBB program, but its not that bad that a new video board arouses you the most about the upcomming season! ;-);-):lol:

The thing that always made me the most excited about the upcoming seasons at BU were the new female cheerleaders on the squad!
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

The Civic Center spent alot of money. Those hoping for better broadcasts are going to get it. The new cameras are ESPN quality HD cameras. Anybody who is anywhere in the building are going to see fantastic replays. From Mezzanine level it is almost like being in your home, sitting in your favorite recliner staring at a HD 50'' TV (I know from experience ;)).

As for the auxillary boards. I found out that they have ZERO intention of using any of that beautiful screen to house stats. The end zone boards will be what house those. So you will now have to look for an end zone screen to see how many points Sammy has.

I have asked this before....can the PCC/Braves (or any D1) show replays anytime they want. Specifically following a controversial call.....say there is a foul and the crowd is up in arms.....timeout is called and while JL is argueing the call we show the replay to even further whip the crowd into a frenzy.

Is there any NCAA rule against this....just wondering.

It never seemed like we showed replays that much before...maybe its just because I never bothered to look becuase you couldn't see much anyway.

My fear is that they will utilize the board for Chico's bail bond commercials :) and other promo's not allowing for replay time.

I love the new board but if its just going to be more mexican hat races....while I understand they have to pay for it I'm tired of worthless promo's vs old time college atmosphere.

good question, and I do not know for certainty -- however there clearly are rules, both per the Civic Center and per NCAA that would prohibit inciting the crowd.....thus I suspect every venue would tread lightly in using replay (whether intentionally or tactlessly/carelessly) to get the crowd enraged, although clearly all venues are free in most situations to show replays, and our guys have done it often..during timeouts and halftime...

FWIW, I happened to speak with someone at the Civic Center to give me a lil further comparison of the video boards. If anyone remembers the Scottrade Center, where that lil MVC tourney is held every year, the specs of the main boards on that scoreboard are IDENTICAL to that of our new boards. Imagine that beautiful sucker in a much smaller arena. Quit Slobbering ;).

looks similar to the new one they are putting in at siu

hate to be a downer -- but can someone explain how this scoreboard differs -- it really doesn't look all that much different except for a slightly bigger video screen -- but then I go to watch what's on the floor not what's on the screen overhead.

I believe the video screen is more than "slightly" bigger. Also, from what I've heard, it will do wonders for hockey games as the Rivermen fans are looking forward to it just as much as many Bradley fans. One big difference is that the entire thing should at the very least stay on for two whole hours while there's a basketball game being played, as opposed to at least one side flickering off and on.

I happen to find myself watching the pregame videos and the replays of some outstanding plays quite often at the Bradley games and have been looking forward to this for more than a couple years now! :D

the flickering on and off -- same thing that occasionally happens to the shot clock -- is generally a problem outside of the device...more with the power supply leading to it...
you don't throw out your TV and buy a whole new one just because the plug fell out of the wall!

As a fan who heavily relied on the on-line video streams to catch BU games, I'm looking forward to the video quality difference brought by the new scoreboard and cameras.

At least I'm hoping there will be an improvement.

Everyone will see the difference at the first game in the Civic Center.
The video screen is more than 4 times the area of the old screen, plus it is much more high-def (coupled with all new camera equipment), which will make watching it a pleasure. Also, the ring around the bottom of the new scoreboard is where much of the advertising and other messages will be shown, so the screen will be freed up much more for videos and highlights.
Let's revive this discussion after the first couple games, and let's see if there is anyone who doesn't like this new scoreboard/screen.

Tornado,

As a techie myself, this is a fantastic improvement. The old video board was like watching tv on a television from 1980. Horribly grainy, low def, and tremendously outdated. The difference is night and day. The new screen, as Da Coach mentioned dwarfs the old screens. But half the problem was the old arena cameras were low def, the new cameras in the arena are ESPN quality HD cameras, which in conjunction with the new screens will provide crisp, clear footage.

I wanted to add a couple more pictures. The first is the scoreboard essentially completed. We are still waiting on ads from Coke to put in above and below the Budweiser ads. The second two pics are of the end zone scoreboards. The scorer will be in the middle and the stats boards will be on either side. Just like in the past, stats displayed for basketball will be player number, points, and fouls. For Hockey, this will be for penalties.

Looking at the score on the board made me wonder if Stan was coming back as coach.

Just looking at the two next to each other, there is no comparison. I am very excited to see this in person! Even more than that, I can't wait to see if the video feed finally improves!
