PJ Star now reverses themselves

tornado

What a waste of 5 pages of discussion about Fife...

now the PJ Star after plainly stating that Dane Fife was in Peoria yesterday to interview for the BU head coaching job...

now this morning the newspaper says...
"Dane Fife declined to comment" and would not confirm he interviewed...

and

"Then late Wednesday, the source of the pjstar.com report backed off earlier assertions about the status of Fife's candidacy for the Bradley position.
The source acknowledged no direct knowledge of Fife being interviewed."

In other words....maybe he was and maybe he wasn't but...
the PJ Star went with info that was unsubstantiated, and is now being denied even by the person they claim to be the source of the information...
egg on their face again.......maybe he was just on Peoria to recruit??

Probably should have.....kind of funny he was here....so I'm pretty sure he was but since nobody confirmed it.....
what?? lefty -- the only thing that would even make you suspect he was interviewed was because the PJS said it was so..
now they say the info they had was wrong and the source is denying it...and yet you still believe it?
Do you still believe John Wilkins will play at Iowa State?

now we even have other newspapers using the PJ Star's erroneous report as their source!!

BUT -- these guys in Ft. Wayne actually call and ask Fife and get the real story..

We all know what this is about...

Newspapers these days are in a tough spot. They are getting beaten to nearly every story, except those about bobblehead giveaways and Grandma's jellies, by internet sites and message boards. The Dane Fife report was being discussed on the message boards for several hours while the PJ Star was probably scrambling to try to find anyone who would comment or back up the rumor. Finally, in a desperate attempt to post something so it wouldn't appear they were completely out of touch, they went with a report based on a suspect and soft source, who is now backing off their claim.

So for those PJ Star apologists here, let's finally put a stop to the claim that newspapers like the PJ Star are more reliable and check their sources much more than internet blogs and message boards do. This proves they don't.

Seriously - does anyone under the age of 50 actually read and rely on the newspaper anymore?

I am well over 50, and I cancelled my subscription a couple weeks ago. Now I can say it is really enlightening and I feel much freer. It was tough cutting the cord, but now I feel much better.
I can still get my local news from several sources like pjstar.com, ciproud.com, and centralillinoisnewscenter.com. when I want it, but I can get reliable news from numerous other sources faster and more reliably than the PJ Star.

I read several papers everyday, including the PJ Star. Do I believe everything as gospel truth- certainly not. For any PjStar "apologists" there may be- there are many PJStar haters around- including mods on this board who post links constantly!

I guess some people just don't appreciate that posting here is a privilege, not a right...

It's the same as some people think about message boards- "all message boards are just variations of pi**ing contests..but I still find them interesting"

What I am saying is I find it laughable that so many castigate the paper, and yet post links here to that same paper...

Having been in the media in the past, the paper is indeed like many others, trying to retain its grasp on whatever piece of the pie it has left...

So what... they get stuff wrong- they have for a long time.. When I was a cub reporter, I stood side by side with a reporter interviewing a coach and what he wrote and what I wrote were completely different.. So I am not a PjStar apologist by any stretch of teh imagination...

It just gets old after awhile- just like the anti-JL rhetoric is to some others on here...

If you banned discussion on the PjStar, there would be a lot less chatter on here...

I'm not an apologist....but I'm not a basher either....I like reading there paper...today I had to read it online and I don't like it much....

It's your board DC...but lets' have one thread that bashes the Star and leave it as a sticky...then it's just on one thread instead of doing it for every article that some don't like.......

I don't bash this board or posters from here OTOB like some do because it's just silly in my opinion.....totally unproductive IMO

does anyone think BU didn't interview Fife?.....maybe he was looking for a job at Manual?:D

Well said

I do not subscribe to the paper. I just don't think there is much in it. I have no major problem with it though.

I was listening to the score a couple days ago. They were reading from the Chicago Tribune or Sun Times. He said he found this interesting. It went something like this. Page 16- "For the first time more people get their news online than in papers-43% online 40% in paper." Then turn to page 25."For the first time more people get their news online than in papers-43% online 40% in paper."

Wonder what would cause that?:D

Sorry, but what is good for the goose, is good for the gander.

The PJ Star has constantly taken shots at blogs and message boards, especially Kirk Wessler. And they have an entire message board dedicated to finding minutia on this site that they can dispute and try to ridicule. The posters on their message board focus almost 100% on finding anything they can on this site to attack, so when the PJS makes many massive, obvious blunders, it is only right that it be pointed out by someone. And we know their message board won't, since they are all apologists (and golfing buddies) for the PJS.

And Braveman, your last line not even close to being true. The discussion here about the PJ Star is far less than 1% of all the posts. Unlike the discussion on the PJ Star board which is dedicated almost 100% about this site.

Agreed, it's the same old, rehashed, stale comments over and over again. "The PJStar got this wrong, the PJStar got that wrong." But what's the point? Last time I checked this board was dedicated to discussing Bradley basketball, not the faults of a newspaper.

I am really hoping that the PJS got this wrong! We can and need to do much better than Dane Fife with our coaching hire.

.....

given it is the only local paper it's not cited as a reference very often at all...
sometimes Big Mike posts current stories for folks out of town who cannot get the paper - but as an actual reference for something factual -- it isn't linked to very often

BTW -- Braveman -- have you now changed media venues?? Was that you on TV the other nite?

agree 100% -- clearly they brag that it IS a PJ Star site -- so they need to take responsibility for the fact that it is not only anti-Bradley -- it is also nearly 100% anti-BradleyFans and takes very personal shots at people in a very immature way. That kind of stuff is disallowed here and moderated but for the few who still know where that site is (given it's a literal death valley of message boards any more, especially if BU wins) they seem to be obsessed and consumed with what's said here and trashing those who say it...even if it makes them look so petty and immature.
