Player Outlook: Eddren McCain

Wow..if he actually has those shooting percentages I wouldn't mind him starting. If he doesn't though Les needs to come up with another lineup with SM as the pg the majority of the time and AW @ the 2.

It'll be interesting to see how much McCain improves and becomes more familiar with his teammates. Hopefully, the offense can get back to where it was a couple years ago with all the ball movement.

I don't think 43%/35%/75% is too much to ask from EM. He simply needs to take better shots because he can't rise up above many people to shoot.

He did get a bit out of hand with the ball occasionally but the teams overall ability to get the ball inside was much to be desired. I believe if he can hit that top of key 3 pt shot he'll be able to open up his ability to drive and pass by making defenders play him tight. With his speed and strength he will be hard to stop. He also played a very good D last year and was a surprising good rebounder.

McCain's development will be the key to BU's future success. He has SO much upside potential, IMO. The athleticism and leadership he showed as a freshman were outstanding and he can get SO much better by the time he's a senior. I think we will see a night and day improvement from him either this year or next. He has already proven at the high school level that he is a scorer -- that is a skill that cannot be taught. Once he develops as a shooter (which I'm confident that Les can help him develop) I think he has the potential to be a real MVC star before he graduates.

The only thing that comes to mind for me when I think of McCain is "confidence".

When he develops confidence in his shot he will be a bigtime force in the MVC. He is quick, strong with the ball... though he did occassional make some seriously questionable freshman mistakes with his passing, he can rebound, good leaper and is a nightmare defensively.

He just seemed last year to abandan any confidence in his outside shot. When that scoring confidence mentality comes back, well he not only can play the 1 very well but I would have no issues with him playing some 2.

that is funny...talking about "McCain", with an avatar that shows "Obama" having a little non-sports recreation in a thread about sports...

He did what a gentleman is suppose to do, he was looking at her foot to make sure she didn't trip stepping up a big step. And was ready to grab her if she did. It's fun that a lot of good natured pictures can be interpreted many different ways:)

I think what we need EM to provide leadership and a give me the ball at the end of the game attitude that we had from Ruffin. He also needs to have a very high ft% which every good team has at the pg.
As long as the improvement continues, he will be solid if not, he will lose minutes because I dont think we will play AW, SM and EM alot together.
AW and SM will hit the free throws, just dont send SM in for the layup [sorry sammy]
Dont get me wrong, I do think EM is a very solid player but I think hes got a lot of talented players around him that will either take his minutes or make him better and hes got a long way to go before he is up to the level of Ruffin.

I agree....Ruffin as a Senior was better then EM as a freshman.

Now if we want to compare both guys as freshman I think EM is close to holding his own.

Good point dogs. I think McCain has the potential (with his strong, solid body type) to be a much better player before he graduates than Ruffin ever was. Time will tell.

This would be quite a feat... wasn't Ruff the leading assist man in the country coming into his senior year?

EM and Ruff are different type of players IMO. EM is more like a running back that runs between the tackles while Ruff was the type that liked to go outside of them. I expect EM to be a pass first and drive PG then bombs away player Ruff was.

Well said SFP. Ruff was somewhat like Willie Scott. McCain more like Anthony Manuel.
