Player Outlook: James Robertson

What is meant by your statement-
"Robertson doesn't have a basketball future with the Braves"?


That sounds like you don't expect him to be part of the team.
Though he is not a scholarship player, he is still part of the team.

It probably isn't worded well. I don't expect him to play in the regular season for the Braves. He is still an important part of the team, as are all the players.
 
Doesn't have a basketball future with the Braves? As long as he used his Red Shirt year to gain some weight, he'd be a great guy to have come off the bench and hit some 3s.

I don't think he'll ever be part of the regular rotation, but he was one of the best shooters in the area as a Varsity player at Richwoods. He was also very clutch. His problem was always that he never seemed to pass the "eye test", meaning that he didn't look like someone who belonged on the basketball court (even at the HS level). However, once you watched him play, you saw someone who plays his heart out, is a solid defender, and a great outside shooter. That is someone who is a positive on any roster.

I agree he could contribute a few threes off the bench, but where do his minutes come from? He'll be behind EM, SM and DD immediately. Then we have DSE and JE as recruits, and AW and CR will steal minutes from the guards.

I just don't see where he appears in more than 5 games unless there are a lot of injuries.

or blowouts! I like guys like him that show up every day and plays hard in practice. It keeps the starters on their toes because the last thing they want is to be is shown up by a walk-on.
 
If you don't think a guy will play any role on the team, maybe you shouldn't profile him? I like all of the other profiles, but this one kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Basically saying his legacy got him here, when in reality he is a very competent player.

I don't think there is any doubt that his legacy helped him to secure a spot as a walk-on at BU. Otherwise, he'd probably be playing D-2 or D-3.

Now, that's not to say he can't make himself into a productive player over the next 4 years. Plenty of walk-ons have.
 
I dont know if his name got him a spot as a walk on or not but he is who he is, a practice player who if he is playing in a game we are either in a blow out or we have gotten so bad with injuries he is needed.

He likely enjoys going to school at BU and wants to be part of the team.

But please stop thinking this player or any walk on will even log 5 minutes and then come in and drill a few 3's. There is a reason that walk ons are walk ons and play when most people have already headed for the exits. They generally are not as talented and/or athletic like the scholorship players.

The Roger Phegleys of the world are extremely few and far between.

Bueschy - I'm sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way. I'm certainly not doing this to alienate anyone, or belittle the players. I think I've been pretty fair so far.

I am previewing all the players, regardless of playing time or where they came from. I agree that his name might have helped him, but if JR wanted to play, he would have gone D2 or D3 like previously mentioned. I think he knew that he'd be buried on the depth chart from the beginning. JR is a smart kid... and an asset to our team.
 
Guys, I would say James chances of ever seeing game-time minutes are slim to none. I met him this past march, and I'm 6'1'' 175 and I felt like he was just a scrawny little guy. Now he might see some blow-out time his senior year, but unlike Danny Adams he does not have a body for D-1 or even D-II basketball.
 
First of all he was a good player in high school, 2nd if he puts in the work over the summer by lifting and playing with the team who knows what could happen with him down the road, I agree that he will not see any action his 1st season but Zobrist was a walk-on and look what happened with him.

Zobrist was a recruited walkon with other D1 offers. Not the same thing.

Just curious, but has there been any official statement on Robertson and why he was NOT on the Brazil trip?
I have heard some things but am reluctant to go with unconfirmed statements.
