POB traded to Toronto

It would NOT be unprecedented for a player traded during a championship season to still be awarded a ring. That would be at the discretion of the team and players, so it is still possible.

I know of at least three examples, two of which are NBA....and one of whom I have talked personally with and know for a fact he was awarded the ring even though he was NOT on the roster....
Nomar Garciaparra got a ring when the Red Sox won the WS even though he was traded mid-season.
Isaih Rider got a ring in 2001 from the Lakers even though he was gone before season's end and was off the roster before the playoffs.

then finally, Mike Penberthy, who played some of his high school basketball in Peoria before moving to California, was on the Lakers' roster for a few games in 2000-2001 and 2001-2002.
In both years he was cut and landed back in Europe before season's end, and yet he was awarded a championship ring.

That's not surprising about POB. I had an interesting discussion earlier this year with someone who knows about POB, etc.

Im not claiming to be a "bigtimer" or "insider"; I just happened to have the opportunity to talk to someone. But if anyone wants any info you can PM me.

Now is reporting Patrick is going to the Toronto Raptors for point guard Will Solomon.
Patrick will join the other former BU player in the NBA, Anthony Parker. I have heard they have met each other, though they never played together on any team in the past, and don't know each other well. But at least they might be able to talk about their experiences at Bradley.:lol:

You beat me to it BB, but you are exactly right. At least for this year. I have been hearing that this may be AP's final year in Toronto.

What are the odds of having 2 players who finished their career at BU (in other words, not counting Danny Granger) ending up on the same team in the NBA?
 
The Raptors were trying to trade their star center Chris Bosh, but they did not deal him. If they had, it probably would have made more playing time available for POB. But for now he will likely be a reserve at Toronto. The Raptors did trade forward Jermaine O'Neal, so I think POB will see a little more playing time for Toronto than he did for Boston.

Here is an article from the Toronto press about the trade- it refers to POB this way--
"The seven-footer from Idaho was the No. 9 pick by Golden State in the 2006 draft, played sparingly for two seasons there before signing a free-agent contract this past summer with Boston."

The article reports that the Raptors sought to make a deal for Anthony Parker, but may now want to try to resign him this summer. But then again, if they think POB is from Idaho, I am not sure they know anything else they are talking about!
 
Fanball.com says POB was sent to the Sacramento Kings for possible future draft pick. Made for salary cap considerations. The kings would make sense since they just traded away Miller yesterday.

O'Bryant dealt to Kings Thursday 2/19, 1:56 PM CT

Patrick O'Bryant has been dealt from the Celtics to the Kings, according to the Boston Globe. The trade was made for salary-cap purposes and the Celtics will not receive a player in return, but there is a chance they will receive a future draft pick.

Our View: The Kings could use depth at center after shipping Brad Miller to the Bulls, but his fantasy value is not expected to improve much.

Flipping through an old media guide, it looks like it's happened with only one other set of players. Barney Cable and Shellie McMillon both played for Detroit during the 1958-59 season. They also played together with the St. Louis Hawks during the second part of the 1961-62 season.

it almost happened in Utah, as Mitchell Anderson left just a couple years before Jim Les played for the Jazz.....but
here's an oddity....

Mitchell Anderson played on the Utah Jazz roster, right alongside Jeff Wilkins (father of future Bradley Brave & present BU commit John Wilkins) from 1983 through 1985!

I hope a move to Toronto helps OBryant. But when a guy is this young and teams give up on him twice within his first 3 years in the League, there is an issue.
