I would like to know why my post on the Bradley suspensions was deleted. It was a question wondering why we belittle other teams' players for suspensions but we don't want to talk about our guys' suspensions.

There were suspensions that have not previously been publicized. This is what Dave Reynolds just reported-

Two starters from previous seasons — Dyricus Simms-Edwards and Will Egolf — served one-game suspensions for violating team rules and watched from the bench.
The pair were being disciplined for an incident last March. Two other Braves — starting center Jordan Prosser and guard Jalen Crawford — will each face the same one-game suspension in Bradley’s first exhibition game Oct. 29 against Upper Iowa.
“All four players have been model teammates and students ever since the incident six months ago,” said BU coach Geno Ford. “Their one-game suspension will complete the (disciplinary) process.”

The news on the suspensions came at 7:30PM last night and was already being discussed within a few minutes after that...
nothing more is known - They didn't get arrested or have DUI's and yet they're getting more suspension than some ISU players & SIU players who did.
What it shows is a commitment to discipline at BU - unlike some other schools - that a minor team rules violation from 7 months ago still gets the kids planted on their butts....where DUI's and drug arrests at other Valley schools were hidden from the press until they "outted" by the message boards and kids still sometimes were re-instated without missing any action.

At first, my reaction was the same as that of SN2, but T - your post makes me feel like we're doing the right thing and that our student-athletes, BU family, and way we handle discipline amidst the pressure for as many wins as possible are exemplary and among the best in the MVC.
I think of Les & Ford as father-figures to these players (though I think most have had decent upbringings from their fathers) who enforce discipline as their parent would, yet the players totally get that their head coach cares deeply for them as people, tries to relate to them, and sees beyond their years at BU in trying to instill in them better decision-making that, let's face it, most college kids struggle with.
I'm not sure if this is accurate, but almost always when a BU player is disciplined, something good comes out of it toward the maturation of the student-athlete. And we have seen several instances in which a player had been disciplined while at BU, but have turned out very successful in their careers and fruitful in their communities. It appears from the outside the same can be said about most Valley schools too.

I think we're handling it OK - but as you might get from my tone - that it also proves these lesser violations DO happen everywhere to every coach - so I think it even moreso highlights how our last coach kinda got singled out & considered responsible for more severe treatment at the hands of some - especially the media.
There are those who say they think the press is fair and they see no evidence that Geno has been getting treated differently that past coaches, but I see the overwhelming difference all the time of how Geno gets a complete pass on things that our local press would have planted on the front page for days....
Trust me - the violations we're dealing with currently are no different than the rude tweets and campus scuffles that some of our previous players were lambasted over.
There are those who say they think the press is fair and they see no evidence that Geno has been getting treated differently that past coaches, but I see the overwhelming difference all the time of how Geno gets a complete pass on things that our local press would have planted on the front page for days....

I couldn't agree more, the tweets and such were almost headline news, but these suspensions barely even warrant a mention? Anyone who says their isn't a difference is coverage is pretty blind. That being said, I'm glad there has been a change. BU has always and now it appears it is continuing to maintain pretty strict discipline among it's student athletes. Previously,when the press killed BU for that and lobbed disingenuous generalizations at our program it makes the violations appear far worse than they are and sets everything in a poor light. For whatever reason, the local press has drastically changed the coverage of the team, and for that I think all of us should be thankful.
I haven't heard anything about what the four have done this time. It sure seemed like you heard what others had done though. I'm not talking through the press but on the board

If the post I saw before the Red/White game is the same post that is being questioned here, then the only thing I saw that was wrong in any way was the lack of a link to give the post validity. Even though the post was latter proven to be accurate, the lack of a link made the post fall into the rumor category at that time. I think that we all agree that Bradley has handled situations like these in an appropriate manner.

While I tend to agree with you on this tornado I think it is more a function of Geno's personality that he has been able to foster a mutually beneficial and cordial relationship with the media. In fairness, Les had less opportunity to develop the same kind of relationship since he was at a significant disadvantage when the local press questioned the whole hiring process and thus painted Les with that same broad, negative, and questioning brush.

No doubt human nature makes it difficult for most to be truely objective. Add to that the press' natural inquisitive and investigative nature and you definitely have the potential for abuse if they become obsessive about something.
