Postgame: BU 81 AP 74

Stats-
http://www.bradleybraves.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=19332&SPID=1498&DB_OEM_ID=3400&ATCLID=3695939

Attendance 4,472

There were large gaps in the lower bowl. Many people I know who are season-ticket holders are gone on vaction, or on spring break with their kids out of school.

I am guessing we'll play Belmont next. The attendance should be better next week.

BU played a small lineup for long stretches. It hurt with rebounding a little, but BU had a ton of steals. I thought they did OK for the long layoff. APSU is not a bad team.

Good point DC. We were without Collins and Singh for more minutes than I care to be. But we got the W! As I said earlier, we only drew 5,100 for Cincinnati last year. I would've been happy with that many against Austin Peay! Looking forward to a couple more home games next week with bigger crowds.

Any word on Singh?

Singh's injury was described after the game as a thigh bruise. But then Coach Les said something anbout tweaking his knee on the postgame show. Nobody seemed too concerned, so I hope he's OK for the next round. Sam played a very good game tonight against some pretty athletic guys.

This CIT bracket page makes it look like it would be the winner of the Oakland-Kent State game that plays Bradley next. That would be Oakland.

But that apparently is not true. This schedule page says,
"* In much the same fashion as the old NIT, future opponent will be determined at the conclusion of each round throughout the tournament."

So we will have to wait until the conclusion of all the games tonight. Plus there is one game that was moved to Thursday night (The Citadel @ Old Dominion).

He sure did. Was glad to see WE put his arm on his shoulder and show concern for him. I think we will be in for some good things with WE and Sam at the 5 next year. Sam has been playing some good ball this last part of the season. Tonight was a real good one. Bring it on #54:!:

I was glad to see the guys pull this one out.

I think the crowd will be better Monday (over 5000, maybe over 6000).

Guessing at matchups and looking at regionality of teams they could send Oakland to James Madison (Northern Virginia area sorta near DC but up and over closer to the W Va border) instead of to Peoria. That could mean we get Belmont (in Central Tennessee area).

But here are my guesses on the matchups:

Bradley vs Oakland
ODU vs Citadel/Liberty winner or Belmont
James Madison vs Citadel/Liberty winner or Belmont
Pacific/Portland winner vs Drake/Idaho winner

:D

Bradley vs Oakland
ODU vs Citadel/Liberty winner or Belmont
James Madison vs Citadel/Liberty winner or Belmont
Pacific/Portland winner vs Drake/Idaho winner

Maybe extend it out a little....

Bradley/Oakland vs Pacific/Portland-Drake/Idaho

ODU-Citadel/Liberty or Belmont vs James Madison-Citadel/Liberty or Belmont

3 things about the game....
--we came out firing and hit early 3's against their zone, especially Eddren
--their Drake Reed has a shot at playing in the NBA, he is a very good player
--I am excited we are still playing, but can't help looking ahead to next year with such a fine bunch of guards coming back plus Andrew!!

and the attendance was still way better than Peay gets at their home games!!

I agree and I also want to say the refs did a fantastic job tonight. There was only one questionable call against TW but otherwise it was as good as it gets!

Also I believe TB will be a great Brave before he leaves. He is a different player then TW, he's more of a fundamental basketball player who is extremely athletic. TW is just a beast. Hopefully TB will hit the weights and become a hybrid. It was also good to see EM and DN take their shots.

Is the CIT considered to be less good than the CBI?

I was under the impression that neither the CBI nor the CIT have any prestige value and were on equal footing.

I was also under the impression that Bradley chose the CIT over the CBI.

If people have an opinion on this I would be interrested to hear it.

Anyone can for their own opinion. The CBI has some schools that have more national visibility, or are from BCS conferences like Oregon State (13-17), Stanford, and St. Johns (16-17).
They also have several that do not have winning records like St. Johns, Oregon State, and Wichita State (16-16). 5 of the 16 teams have losing records in their conferences.
Here are the CBI teams-
http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/teams.htm

The CIT has 16 teams- all with a winning record. The CIT teams are less heralded, and not known as much to people around the country because they rarely appeared on TV, but I think it is a slightly better quality group of teams.
Here are the 16 CIT teams-
http://www.collegeinsider.com/tournament/index.html

Any tournament that will sell slots to multiple teams like St. Johns and Oregon State, who have losing records, detracts a bit from my interest and respect.

As long as it is open season on opinions, my theory is that the NCAA is covertly (though not officially) behind the CIT, the goal being to compete with the CBI with the ultimate outcome of destroying both tournaments and restoring their monopoly on post-season tournaments.

It's the same thing that happened back in '90 when the National League owners publicly objected to the formation of the Players League but secretly supported it, knowing that it would draw support away from the American Association, which was then gaining traction, causing both of the competing leagues to fold and restoring the NL's monopoly for another decade.

By the way, the CIT is listing Bradley vs. Oakland for Monday, so presumably it's official now? From the website:

QUARTERFINALS:

Monday March 23
James Madison (20-14) @ Liberty (22-11)
Belmont (20-12) @ Old Dominion (21-10) /The Citadel (20-12)

Oakland (23-12) @ Bradley (19-14)
Idaho (17-15) @ Pacific (20-11)
