Power Outage at Superbowl

tornado

New member
bad news is that game is delayed...but good news...
the power to the announcers' booth is out and we don't have to listen to them (famous mid-major-haterJim Nance) for a little while

Conspiracy theory: Any chance the "power outage" was a bounty paid by the Saints to throw the breaker and Goodell will have to answer to altering the outcome of a SB?

Very good point tornado! Yeah, Jim while a bit more "professional" than loud mouths like Billy Packer and Digger Phelps, can still be a pest regarding his opinions of mid-major teams "crashing the party" every year.

That said, Jim must be in his glory that Wichita St. and Indiana St. lost yesterday. Based on their loss to Drake, ISU would not be in the field now, though they still can get in with one more win against CU/WSU and no more bad losses.

SF Coach Jim Harbaugh may end up regretting not taking the sure 1 point conversion. If they score again now they will go ahead 35-34. The a 1 point conversion is worthless, so they'll need to try for 2 again. If they fail, Baltimore can win with a FG. I thought it was way too much time left to go for the 2-point conversion.

Great game regardless. Glad things got interesting after the power outage, because that game was ready to get out of hand.

Super Bowl Recap:

???49ers secondary exposed as worthless

???Turnovers and penalties killed SF :(

???SF Red Zone Offense pathetic - play calling terrible

???SF FG-K Akers will be selling cars or insurance next season :x

???THE NFL IS A BIG JOKE SINCE THEIR RULES DON'T APPARENTLY
APPLY IN THE LAST 1 MINUTE OF A 60 MINUTE GAME

Baltimore played well enough to win, but, this SB will be remembered for
the power failure and the gutless officiating

maybe the outage but I doubt it will be for gutless officiating...I know the last pass in the end zone was suspect too.

I thought what hurt big time was how SF ended the half. they let a lot of time off the clock and then ran the ball for no gain, call timeout and then run again. That made no sense to me....then had to take the FG.

I thought they went for the 2 with too much time on the clock as well..

And the running into the kicker call seemed a little suspect as well which enabled Akers to make it the second time...

I really didn't care who won...like I said before Jim H drives me nuts although I like brother John. I like the 49er's as a team but I don't like Lewis and the Ravens...

Pretty much how I feel. This did not seem like the best officiating crew in the NFL.

Loss a little bit of respect for brother John when he made an a-- out of himself during the Pieter outage.

so what did everyone think of the halftime show with Beyonce wearing a skimpy black leather dominatrix outfit
then stripping even more of it off as she "pranced & danced" -- there were a couple of widely differing thoughts ;)
One of Beyonce's biggest fans like it -

Of course she does....I actually like some of here songs but it seemed kind of jumbled to me...more lights, dance ec....and not much singing really...

Didn't love it, but certainly didn't hate it. I'm more a fan of multiple groups coming together for a variety to reach across more generations or groups that are a spectacle you wouldn't see elsewhere. Recent SB shows--The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Tom Petty are great musicians who I listen to frequently, but certainly not a spectacle enough alone. Put all three of those together in one show, now that would be something memorable.

any maybe more writhing on the floor than some people really wanted to see

I like scantly clad women but I thought her show was a little too much for all the young kids that would be watching. She has a nice voice so why did she have to go in the, I really can't sing but watch me dance very sexy, role? Not the right signal to send young women, IMO.

I had always wondered if or how they'd know how many people watch or change channels during halftime - but I found out something this past week.....
Do you know the people at the cable company do have the ability to know exactly what channel you are viewing?

...that "they" do have a way of knowing exactly what channel you're watching or have on if you have most any of the modern cable systems with the "smart box"....
even though I don't really think they want to widely disseminate the knowledge that they have that ability....

I was having a problem with that little black cable box that the remote switcher operates (smart-box), so while I was on the phone, live talking with a Comcast service rep...he was going thru some steps to see if he could "reboot" my box and get it working...
In the process, he asked me to change channel to a certain channel that I had said was inoperative - then the guy on the other end of the phone actually knew exactly when I changed to that channel....
I was amazed that he indicated he knew I was on channel 52 and he said that indeed the cable box told him that but that he wasn't supposed to have let me know that he knew that...
Thus - the cable company probably doesn't so much care what you are watching so much as they use their data to know how many people are viewing any given channel in any time slot - then sell the data for advertising, etc......
but it was kinda eerie finding out that someone sitting 1000 miles away working for Comcast - can instantly know what channel you are tuned to.

I don't doubt that at all T. I'm not sure about cable company provided DVR's, but I know Tivo keeps/shares metrics not only of when/what people record, but also what they rewind and skip on recorded shows too.
