Practice update

Practice update - beware - other teams mentioned...

-it was reported that Luuk's injury was a fractured fibula but as freely as he was walking with the boot would suggest a healing stress fractice and not a completed fracture of the fibula. Anyway - he won't practice until later this month..

-Drake has their Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage tomorrow at 2pm

-at SIU oft-injured, redshirt senior Thik Bol suffered another injury in practice.
It apparently required another knee procedure so he is out for at least another week or so.
Even before this injury Barry Hinson had said Bol-
"may be limited all season bc of his knee. He expects Bol to still play 15-20 mpg
and be Thik Bol but “may never be healthy this season."

ISU Hoopfest
Keyshawn Evans wins 3-pt contest, Phil Fayne wins dunk contest
Their Red-Gray scrimmage was ...
Gray 23 - Red 18

addendum- I was hoping the Pantagraph or their beat writer would have some coverage but I guess not...
there's nothing at all in their paper today about their scrimmage and their beat writer was instead at a local high school football game
Their campus guys (The Vidette) have some coverage on Twitter & a picture or two - https://twitter.com/Vidette_Sports

.... Evansville has theirs with a scrimmage on Wednesday

report on Evansville's Hoopfest
https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2018/...-attractions-on-display-at-2018-hoopfest.aspx

In their 3-point contest- the two finalists were transfer Shea Feehan & WBB RS Junior Marley Miller...and Miller took home the Championship!

Marley Miller also won the WBB Knockout Contest while Feehan won the Men's Knockout

The Dunk Contest was won by transfer Sam Cunliffe (not eligible this year)

They had a 12-minute intrasquad scrimmage but no official scoring totals were made public.

Unofficially their "Purple" squad beat the "Orange" 23-18
Scoring: Feehan 7 pts, Marty Hill 7, John Hall 6, freshman Shamar Givance 5, DeAndre Williams (not eligible this year) 4.

As you can see from the video - the crowd was fairly small

Valparaiso also held an open practice and a season ticket holder event...
neither apparently was well received...and not well attended...(maybe 50 people at the practice?)
There were some videos posted to confirm what the fans said - but a couple of comments by Valpo fans went like this:

First - a comment on the ticket holder event:
"The season ticket night was a dull event. Not much planning went into it to make it fun. A very seasoned crowd. It’s like they had it to just have it.

"I have never been to one of these events, but I'm disappointed in the lack of planning observed above. This, like the Hammond Civic Center open practice coming later, needs to be well choreographed to appeal to the audience that attends. I assume the goal of both open practices is to develop some fan excitement and create a closer bond between the fans and the players on the team. It sounds like this could have been done better. Season ticket holders should send some feed back...."

Then some comments on the practice last night:
"That was not a practice, complete waste of time...."

"Admittedly our group arrived 20-minutes after the “alumni” portion began, so we might have missed the most abridged “practice” of all time.

They lazily mingled with locals and watched as 5-year olds air balled shots. It felt like halftime @ the ARC of late. Disorganized and meaningless. I won’t be driving 90-minutes each way for less than open gym quality play again. Most of the players never took off their sweat shirts.

The limited info gleaned from the mess was:

1) No Sorolla sighting unless he was hiding in a corner
2) Nick Robinson was in a walking boot? Best I could tell it was him
3) Eron Gordon has a beard
4) Mileek is a legit 6’8” and no more baby face
5) Ryan Fazekas can type fast on his phone
6) Micah Bradford doesn’t even shoot during “practice”, heck maybe that’s good news!
7) Javon Freeman looks like Kobe Bryant (physically) and is shifty and going to be fun!
8 ) Daniel Sackey is FAST and tiny
9) Hammond is a bit ghetto
10) Neither coach even picked up the microphone in the 60-minutes we were there"

"Attendance - what is your guess?
Minus players and staff...maybe 50 ppl? ..
Just horribly organized, I was wholly dissatisfied. Maybe I’m the fool for thinking “Practice” meant drills and possibly scrimmage."

About the best thing that Missouri State fan on their message board had to say about their scrimmage yesterday is that some of the players looked good "getting off the bus". :)

The few comments I have seen elsewhere say they looked terrible and have a lot of work to do.
Here is one fan's comment with photos. It does not look very well attended. But then it was scheduled at 10:00 AM yesterday, on a Saturday morning, and it was combined with the women's team scrimmaging.

the Bradley student directory shows him as enrolled freshman but obviously he is not currently with the team...
so either he has changed his mind or will wait a year and join as a walk-on next year when Peter Hanley has graduated...

....or maybe it was never official in the first place.

As we made clear here, the only report was a short blurb in his high school newspaper. It was never mentioned or confirmed by anyone at Bradley.

The scholarship grid has been updated.

...
Barry Hinson says freshman Amadou Fall & R-Senior Thik Bol are still recovering from their knee surgeries...
Fall may redshirt - in fact Barry "was leaning towards redshirting all four freshmen" but Bol doesn't have a redshirt year left
so they will have to be very careful with him... I wonder if he will play much at all until the conference season starts since that's all that matters

SIU also has a closed scrimmage set for the end of Oct. but opponent not revealed.

UNI's Tywhon Pickford - out 4-6 weeks

now one of their potential starters Eric McGill has a foot injury and may be out a while......
...also one of their local press articles says Darius Beane is not redshirting and that it was his idea not Barry's...and a separate report says Sam Shafer is not redshirting - as Barry had formerly indicated all the freshmen might redshirt - but Amadou Fall & Sekou Dembele (who may be sitting out for NCAA initial eligibility concerns) are redshirting.
Their best player Armon Fletcher is out with a concussion and will not play in their Thursday exhibition against "East Central" - a DII from Oklahoma.

more news on redshirts...

-Missouri State's Jared Ridder - who redshirted last year and was hoping to be eligible to start this season,
did not play in their exhibition and now appears to be ineligible for 1st semester

-Northern Iowa will redshirt Tray Croft but that Croft was already suspended and has "academic issues"

I know it was meant for me. Thanks for the warning.
