Utah is in Australia and lost their second game of the tour, getting absolutely embarrassed 103-78 by the Perth Wildcats.
Utah won their first game 97-96 last night against the same Perth Wildcats and now head to Sydney and Canberra to complete their tour.

A Touring team of American Collegians, playing for AIA lost to the West Sydney Razorbacks 128-93.
AIA had 29 turnovers, leading to 40 points,
Evansville's Jason Holzonger had 13 pts, 5 rebounds,
Notre Dame's Luke Zeller had 14 pts, 4 rebounds,
AIA plays the Sydney Kings Sunday.

University of Tennessee Vols are in Europe and won their first game 113-64 over BK Sadska Friday night in Podebrady, Czech Republic.
In their 2nd game earlier this morning, they beat BK Kolin 110-70,
Chris Lofton had 20 and 16 points in the two games.

I guess I am pretty starved for college basketball action when I find myself digging for scores on another continent.......

But...the touring Athletes in Action team in Australia just completed a thrilling game against the three time NBL (Aussie pro league) Sydney Kings, losing 105-103.

The game was back and forth the entire way with Evansville's Jason Holzinger hot in the first half, hitting four 3-pointers and ending the half with 20 points, and the halftime score 54-54.

AIA had an 11 pt lead with nine minutes to go, then sydney went on a run of 10 consecutive points.
Luke Zeller had a steal and a jump shot at the buzzer but it didn't fall.
Holzinger finished with 26, Zeller had 14 pts, 8 rebs.
They have a game in Tasmania on Tuesday.

Auburn just completed a three game preseason exhibition to to Mexico.
All three games were easy blowouts...

106-73 over Quintana Roos
90-74 over Roo Pioneros
104-72 over Selecciones Cancun

The teams Auburn played were so weak that they were playing and even starting their walk-ons much of the way...
Here's a quote:
"Junior walk-on Drew Smith made the first start of his Auburn career and finished with 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
"It felt good to start, and it was something new for me, but it was exciting and fun," said Smith. "I came out there and had as much confidence as I could have.
"I played more minutes than I played in my whole career. I was tired at the end, though. I always cheer on the guys from the bench, and it felt really good to have them cheering for me tonight. I am not going to lie about that."

As I said elsewhere, if all your walkons are playing in these games, then how valuable can they be?
The team would get better tested playing a bunch of pickup players on campus!

Seems as if Auburn could have saved some money if they just assembled their team at the Texas, Arizona, or California border and forced a few illegals to challenge them to a game of b-ball in exchange for US citizenship

One more score for those desperate for real basketball....

In Canberra, Australia....
Australian Institute of Sport 87 - Utah 76, Utah committing 19 turnovers. Utah is now 1-2 on the six-game tour.

Utah plays again later today against the West Sydney Razorbacks,
while the touring AIA team plays in Tasmania.

A separate AIA touring team in Germany, that has Illinois' Trent Meacham and Richard Semrau,
played their first game last night and won 99-70.
Meacham had 14 pts. and Semrau appears to have not played.

Here are a couple pictures from Germany:

The Australian AIA tour posted a 125-92 win over the Tasmanian All Stars. Believe it not!! it is winter down there and the temperature outside in Hobart, Australia is subzero and one report said
"The official scorer even completed her duties while wearing a full winter coat, scarf, and gloves."

another report:
"As it turns out, we were playing indoors, but no heat is used, so people are bundled up like they are at a football game. In fact, the official score keeper was wearing mittens. I've never seen that before!!"

Utah lost to the Razorbacks, then lost again before finall breaking their 3 game exhibition losing streak by beating the Rockhampton Rockets 92-71.
They are now 2-3 with only one game left vs. the Brisbane Bullets -- defending champions of the National Basketball League (of Australia) -- on Friday.

Utah Beat the Brisbane Bullets 85-80 to finish their 6 game Australian tour.

Liberty U is going to Canada

BYU wins their first game in France 90-68 over the Paris All-Stars, to go 1-0

Tennessee finishes their Euro tour with a 104-95 victory over BK Klosterneuburg to finish 4-1

Drake wins their first game in the Bahamas, 91-65 over the Bahamas All Stars.
Hard to know how tough the competition is but Josh Young shot the lights out from the international 3-point line (20 ft-6 inches) and ended up with 27 points.

wow, I have been a Josh-fan since I saw how well he played in the game at Drake last year (although he didn't do as well at Carver Arena).
If he can reliably shoot like that, I think Drake could be an upper division MVC team!

That seems like a stretch, but I hope you're right. I expect big things from Young....as a matter of fact, I expect him to be Drake's all-time leading scorer when he finishes his career. And, he's an even better person than he is a basketball player.

Still, Drake has to replace 4 starters from last season's 9th place team. I'm concerned with interior play and point guard play. I think Josh Parker will be a very good point guard, but it's asking a lot of a freshman to step right in and play at the MVC level. Perimeter play should be very good, and will be a much, much better shooting Drake team than the past few years.

P.S. Is anybody else having problems with EXTREMELY slow response times on this board.

Yes, it has been happening at times. The problem is with the server. We are working on it, and we apologize. The IT staff at Bradleyfans.com has been overworked with all the traffic we've had!
We are looking into moving to a different web service, so please be patient.

DUbulldog, most of the Valley teams have a lot of losses.
Evansville lost as much as you guys, and Creighton, WSU, Bradley, UNI, and ISU all lost a lot.

DUB thanks for the update,
.......can you give any idea of what kind of team "Sunshine Auto" of Nassau, Bahamas is?
Are these college kids, ex-college Bahamians, or are they on par with the teams we see here in Peoria down at the RiverPlex?

Seems that if you beat a team by 50, then maybe the starters such as Young, Cox, Houston, etc., shouldn't even be playing in the 2nd half?

I'm not sure what kind of team the Sunshine Auto team is.....I'm guessing it's a "club" team sponsored by Sunshine Auto. New Mexico played them (won 82-41) in May.

As for your second point about resting the starters.....I agree, but it's not as easy as it sounds for Drake's team right now. There are only 7 scholarship players available, and only 9 players total (the new guys cannot play, as this trip is prior to the start of the school year). So, Drake is forced to have at least one starter on the floor at all times, unless they want to play with only 4. :D

I know the competition is weak, but I've been encrouaged by these scores. There are only 4-5 guys on this trip who figure to be in Drake's 10 player rotation (if 10 is indeed the number). It is essentially only half of the team playing right now.

DU Bulldog, I note that they were shorthanded, but in all the press releases, I never saw mention of redshirt freshman Keith Worner playing.
He went on the trip, did he play? If he played, how'd he do?

By the way....Kelvin Sampson's Indiana Hoosiers travel to the Bahamas this weekend to play several of the same teams Drake just clobbered.
Indiana plays Bahama Select at 8:30PM Friday, then a team called Guatemala at noon on Saturday, then return to action Saturday evening at 8PM against Sunshine Auto, and wrap up with a Sunday 2PM game vs. Commonwealth Bank.
