Preseason summer exhibition games

tornado

New member
They start tomorrow...

August 2 - Pitt plays Commonwealth Giants in the Bahamas
..then between tomorrow & the end of August, at least 25 college teams will be playing games as part of their summer exhibition tours
I do not know of any Missouri Valley teams playing this summer -

Substitute opponent for Pitt, the Pyramid Food Rockets
Doesn't matter - Pitt's killing them...

7 minutes left in 4th quarter Pitt leads 87-47

edit -
Pitt wins 101-62

There were no games in the Bahamas last night but....
South Dakota State played Pinheiros in Brazil to start their exhibition tour...

South Dakota State got clobbered 84-63, playing poorly, lots of turnovers, maybe the travel affected them...

SDSU head coach Scott Nagy said....
"This is probably the best team we'll play all season, and I don't mean just in Brazil,
this is a team of men, and we just played like boys tonight."

Ex-Iowa Hawkeye recruit Cody Larson had 11 pts for South Dakota State
Tomorrow the SDSU Jackrabbits play the Brazilian U22 National team, and Xavier - with ex-BU recruits Remy Abell & Matt Stainbrook arrive
in Brazil & play Flamengo U22 and two more games (Pitt & Ole Miss) are played in the Bahamas.

btw - Abell finished their summer league averaging 23 ppg & 40% from 3-pt...
He teams with other ex-Bradley recruits, Larry Austin, Jr., and James Farr this coming season.

Ole Miss beats the Providence Storm in Bahamas 92-81
..Eugene Bain, who played against us in the Bahamas, led Providence with 20 pts,
Ole Miss was led by Jarvis Summers with 22.
Ex-BU recruit Roderick Lawrence had 5 pts,

they have only one more game there - Wednesday

BTW - one of the top dogs at Ole Miss kinda put his foot in his mouth...then HAD TO BACKTRACK!
during an interview on August 1, he said the University policy was to use the phrase
"OLE MISS" only in the athletic context and to use "UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI" otherwise...

Then ....
"Following public outcry from fans, students and alumni on message boards and social media sites
following the release of the Six-Step Plan on Inclusiveness, University Chief Communications Officer Tom Eppes
gave a clarification interview published by The Clarion Ledger in Jackson, Miss.

Eppes talked to the Ledger late on Aug. 1 after the newspaper’s earlier online report said,
“The university will continue to use the nickname Ole Miss, but should consider whether to
limit its use to the context of athletics and school spirit.” The Ledger reports Eppes as clarifying that
“the sixth point does not represent any change in the school’s policy regarding the use of the nickname.”

In preseason foreign exhibition action...
Xavier 99 - Flamengo 68
Xavier played this exhibition game making plenty of subs and resting starters a lot...running off to a 25-10 lead early and coasting a bit

Jamie Farr had 12 pts, 14 rebs, Sean O'Mara 8 pts, 9 rebs, Larry Austin, Jr. started & had 9 pts, 4 rebs.
Xavier did commit a lot of turnovers (27) and shot only 6-21 from the arc.
Xavier outrebounded Flamengo 60-24 (!!) even with Matt Stainbrook sitting out with an ankle sprain.

Pitt beat Bahamas Legends All Stars 94-55 to go 3-0 in the Bahamas.
Eugene Bain again played for the Bahamian team - Pitt reserve Joseph Uchebo had 17 rebs, Pitt missed all nine of their 3-pt attempts

...SDSU Jackrabbits play the Brazilian U22 National team....

turns out it was NOT the National team but a U22 team from a regioal club Regatas Campineras...
and South Dakota State clobbered them...

SDSU 103 - Club de Regatas Campineiro/U22 50

Exhibition scores Wednesday night..
South Dakota State beats Jacarei - close game but final 86-73

Xavier beats Macae 81-53 in Brazil

Because of the time difference - the Eastern Kentucky Colonels just completed their first Australian exhibition game on Friday night down under...
Final score Sydney Kings 76 - EKU 65

The Sydney Kings got 20 points & 18 rebounds from Angus Brandt - who Bradley once looked at several years ago when he played for Lake Forest Academy (IL)
and competed in Washington, IL in the Thanksgiving Tournament of Champions.
Corey Walden led EKU with 20 but the Colonels were badly outrebounded 46-24

BTW - here's a picture of Angus Brandt when he played in the Washington HS gym back in November 2008-
he's the one in orange on the right - next to #45 in the white jersey
Photo from Nov. 2008 - Trusted Choice Tournament of Champions in Washington, IL - Lake Forest Academy vs. Kinston, NC

Indiana Hoosiers start their Canadian tour with 110-70 win over Laval Univ.
ISU's Nick Zeisloft started, played 23 min- went 2-5 (al 3 pt attempts) and scored 6 & 1 reb.
Hanner Perea was not with the team and suspicions were that he's in trouble and suspended again, but IU gave an excuse that he had visa problems for this Canadian trip that had been planned for months

Ohio State killed Providence Storm in Bahamas - 115-63 - Keita Bates Diop had 18 pts, 7 rebs

Xavier goes to 3-0 on their Brazil trip with a 76-42 win over Tijuca

Notre Dame played their first game in Italy and won 101-48 over Perugia Select.

US teams go to 16-2

More scores

Notre Dame's final was 102-48 last night then they
beat Adriatic Tritons 90-59 today

Georgia State beats Cartago in Costa Rica 82-29

In Xavier's 3rd win in Brazil, Remy Abell was 3-5, 10 pts, 2 reb - Larry Austin, Jr. 4 pts/3 asst
Matt Stainbrook sat out for the 3rd straight game with an ankle injury.

More scorers Saturday night

Xavier completes their tour 4-0 by beating Flamengo 91-68

Larry Austin, Jr. 5 pts, 5 asst, 4 steals

Sean O'Mara 9 pts, 6 rebs

IPFW leads McMaster 18-17 after 1st qtr, McMaster is ranked #5 among Canadian Colleges

edit - Morehead State game now at halftime in Bahamas ...very fast paced - Morehead State 59 - All Stars 42 - tons of fouls & turnovers
six different Morehead players have 3 fouls at halftime!

McMaster leads IPFW 32-25 at half in Canada

Kennesaw State just defeated Vicenza in Italy 70-53 - but just before they left on their 4-game exhibition tour, they had a
Preseason Awards Presentation event - something to drum up early season fan interest...
http://www.ksuowls.com/news/2014/8/1/MBB_0801144614.aspx?path=mbball

US teams now go to 12-2

Hey, that's a good idea. How come Bradley never did anything like that? Oh right, we used to have events to drum up fan interest even though there was plenty of fan interest to begin with. Made too much sense.

IPFW beats McMaster 80-69, but they had to rally and outscore McMaster 31-13 in the 4th quarter.
Steve Forbes had 19 for IPFW.

Vermont 95 - Queens College (Canada) 53

Georgia State 52 - Puntarenas (Costa Rica) 42 - Louisville transfer Kevin Ware had 8pts, 3 reb, 3 asst, 5 steals
Kentucky transfer Ryan Harrow had 10, ex-Bradley recruit Markus Crider had 5 rebs.

Kennesaw State played an exhibition game against an Army base team in Vicenza, Italy. A final score was not reported but a mentions said the guys from the army base won! (US teams 24-3)

Kennesaw State played game 2 in Italy - cruising to a 30 pt win - stats n/a

Eastern Kentucky is getting really tough competition...playing in Australia...
They lost their 2nd game as well, 106-99 in OT...I'm sure the coach unhappy about giving up so many points...

UNI's David Gruber plays for the Wollongong Hawks and he had 12 pts/10 reb - five of the Hawks were in double figures
For Eastern Kentucky - they had 6 players in double figures with Corey Walden getting 28
EKU forced an enormous 34 turnovers, with Walden getting 8 steals - but again was terribly outrebounded 48-22! They also launched 40 3-pt attempts making only 11.

Later today in the Bahamas - University of Kentucky plays the first of SIX games there - with John Calipari working his political skills
by saying he thinks his team should lose all six!!
