Preseason summer exhibition games

In an early Sunday game South Dakota State finished their Brazil tour with a
win over Botafogo, 114-63 - they return with a 3-1 exhibition record....
US D-I teams are now 24-4 overall

In Bahamas:
Kentucky 74 - Puerto Rico 49 (a "national" team but noted to be reserves)
..balanced scoring - none of the PR team were even notable college players..

Indiana tied at half with Canadian opponent Ottawa, 52-52 - Nick Zeisloft is 2-2 from the arc

Indiana held a 59-54 lead early in the 2nd half and was still tied 88-88 late but now
the Hoosiers look defeated - they are down 104-95 with less than a minute to go...

edit - Indiana loses to Ottawa 109-101

looks like those who doubted ISU's Nick Zeisloft when he left ISU and transferred to Indiana might have been wrong...
it appears that despite all those 4-Star blue chippers & Top-10 recruiting classes Indiana has Zeisloft is actually one of Indiana's
better players, better shooters, and he plays a ton for them as he apparently has the experience and maturity most college coaches covet.

a lot of ISU fans didn't think Zeisloft would play starter-minutes for Tom Crean and be their best 3-pt shooter... :-o
..they thought the same thing about Ekey

More exhibition scores -

Morehead State 103 - Real Deal Shockers 57 in Bahamas
IPFW 86 - York (Canada) 74 - IPFW's Steve Forbes 27 pts
Georgia State goes 3-0 in Costa Rica with a 71-41 win over Juegos Nacionales IUPUI transfer RJ Hunter with 19 - Louisville transfer Kevin Ware 7 pts, 7 rebs, 4 steals
and ex-BU recruit Markus Crider 7 pts & 9 rebounds
Wofford beats Jeugos Nacionales in Costa Rica - score n/a

Eastern Kentucky win in Australia to go 1-2
they beat Suncoast Clippers 125-91, with all nine of their players scoring double figures

Kentucky playing some off-season B-team from France in Bahamas - it's on ESPNU - amazing that UK even gets their summer exhibition games on TV

anyway - Chalon led or played close the entire 1st half, with UK leading by 5 at half...
then UK pulling away in 2nd half...

Final Kentucky 84-Chalon 58

some of the reports tout how powerful this French team was but none of the players' names are very recognizable despite claims that half a dozen or so of them played D-I basketball.
..but one fairly obscure guy from Butler, a guy from UC-Davis, and the rest really obscure still doesn't differentiate that much from the other foreign teams everyone's playing.

Hoosiers playing better defense - up 23-7 over Carleton in Canada

edit - Nick Zeisloft started but was scoreless for IU in 1st half - IU now up in 3rd qtr by 18

edit again - Crean must be wondering...his lead - once 18pts, has shrunk to 7 and IU/Zeisloft chucking airballs...

Premium article on Indiana Rivals site....
says that Nick Zeisloft is Indiana Hoosiers' MVP so far...
he was 4-5 form 3-pt range yesterday (scored 13 pts) and now 8-13 from the arc in 3 games....
he is what they most lacked last year ...an outside shooter..
Odd how valuable they see him and are happy to have him for two more years - while ISU was so anxious to run him off....
ISU was DEAD LAST in MVC in both FG shooting percentage and 3-pt shooting percentage last year - and they run off their best 3-pt shooter?
https://indiana.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1669020

ISU was not anxious to run him off... on the contrary actually, as the staff tried to convince him to stay when he told them he was looking to transfer to get his masters degree...

some thought they were - did you not see your own fans posting about using his scholarship for an upgrade or chasing down his bricks....

and we know Lofton was not welcomed back so seeing Zeisloft (who was well known to say he was happy to be playing for ISU and who had NOT graduated yet) escorted out the door when he had NO idea and no plans where he was going to be the next year to finish his degree) simultaneously after he redshirted there and still had 2 years left sure seems like maybe he felt he was not wanted...

If you find one poster who said ANYTHING about "using his scholarship for an upgrade" before it was announced or rumored he was leaving, please share it. Once someone is announced to leave, wouldn't the natural thing to do be to try to bring in a player that was an upgrade? Would you be happy to get a player not as good as the one leaving??? Think about it...

I find that an interesting take...as I recall the tone of a few comments clearly indicating an upgrade from Zeisloft was needed.. .. and you know as well as I do that the pickings are pretty slim to find any such upgrade when you begin shopping in the late spring.

Kentucky knocks off those same Puerto Rican reserves - 93-57
Indiana 109 - Quebec 77 with Nick Zeisloft having an off game, just 1-6, 3 pts

a group of Pac-12 All Stars is on a tour in China..
Pac-12 All Stars 73 - Chinese Univ. 47

I think most ISU fans were exciting to see what NZ would be able to do while
not having to defend the 4 position and worry about rebounding, and could
play his natural SG position for an entire year... The additions of Hawkins,
McIntosh, Ransom, and a healthy Jones would have allowed that. We likely
wouldn't have offered McCloud if NZ didn't leave. I hope NZ and McCloud
both have breakout seasons and multiple years of success at IU and ISU!

UIC loses to Ottawa 79-76...transfer Jay Parker has 10 asst, junior Gabe Snider had 28 pts.
UIC's starting lineup were 5-8, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, and 6-6 - they simply don't have much else and used starters 30-35 min.
Former JL recruit Lance Whittaker had 3 pts, 2 asst in his debut

IPFW loses to Windsor, Canada 89-74

Ohio 80 - Queen's University (Canada) 75
(Queen's has a 6-5 guard Greg Faulkner who hit from all over and was quite impressive - scoring 28 )

Notre Dame 95 - Vicenza 57

Vermont 70 - Quebec 57 - Vermont finishes their tour 3-2

St. Francis Univ. came from 25 points behind to beat Limoges 87-80. They are 1-1 in France and now go to Spain for 2 more games.

Northern Arizona 58 - Commonwealth Giants 47 in Bahamas

Kennesaw State beats Viva Belgrade in Italy to finish 3-1

Tennessee Tech 81 - Puerto Plata 62 (Dominican Republic)
Tennessee Tech 97 - Metros de Santiago 78 " (they play two more games today & 6 total)

Michigan is just leaving for Italy...but it has already been announced that Max Bielfeldt will not be playing as he recovers from surgery.

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2014/05/off-season_overview_after_2_ye.html

Also on Max Bielfeldt:
"Bielfeldt was reclassified to a senior from a redshirt junior, meaning this is his final season at U-M despite redshirting as a freshman.
“That’s my prerogative when someone goes into their fifth year,” Beilein said. “We thought it was best right now that he complete
his degree and graduate in four years, and that gives him an option to do something like Blake McLimans did that fifth year,
so it’s one that the head coach can exercise and we thought it was a good thing and he understands it.”

http://www.usatoday.com/story/Sport...erines-will-be-shorthanded-in-italy/13995385/
...so Max will be available to transfer as a GRAD STUDENT next spring (2015) and be able to play elsewhere.

Also - since we just heard about one of Bradley's players having a stress fracture in the foot - note that the link also talks about ex-BU recruit Caris Levert, who had surgery for a stress fracture in his foot back in early May, and is just now cleared to play - but as noted by Coach Beilein, is way behind on conditioning and endurance and will need a lot more time.
