"Privileges" taken away

Obviously we've never played "kill the man w/ the ball"...

The point is not to think others are going to get the ball...

I'd rather 3 of our guys fight for a rebound and lose it out of bounds than everyone stand around assuming someone goes after a loose ball, no one does, and the other team has an easy putback...

I don't ask much, I just don't want to see players out there that look like they'd rather be somewhere else or players wandering like they're lost...

Hustle and Intensity = RESPECT

The best rebound Collins had last night was the result of two Butler players going after it so hard they collided and knocked each other down.

Well...and thats ok...I like the effort...and most will tell you that 9 out of 10 times you will get that ball if you go after it full-tilt...

I would not expect any less of an effort...

Whether its from us or them, I would want to walk away and say we beat the other team and while they left it all out on the floor, we did just a little more to get the job done...

Thats what college basketball is all about.

I don't know what bothers me more:

1) The fact that criticism is always viewed as "negative" around here, no matter how constructive it may be......or

2) Since players read the board, the "negativity" somehow affects their performance, and if that's the case, it's only fair to surmise their mental toughness must be well, not very good.

If #2 is true, then let me say this to any player who reads the board: college is a tremendous learning experience, and it doesn't get any easier once you leave, learn now that you will constantly be evaluated and criticized by others, many of whom have no idea what it's like to walk (or jump, or run) in your shoes, but unfortunately, that's life. Use this experience now to learn how to handle this situation, take the good, leave the bad, but develop your mental toughness now so you can handle life in THE REAL WORLD.

There is no one on this board that loves BU basketball more than I do and let me assure you that it pains me to see us play the way we did last night. But I have to tell you there are some bigger issues in this world right now than how the Bradley mens basketball team play last night.

A couple of examples....

* there are two wars going on right now and our fellow Americans are dying to protect our freedoms.

* Millions of Americans are out of work and its getting worse every day.

* Millions of Americans have lost their homes and have no place to live.

I could cover cancer, HIV and so on and so on but I wont. I understand a spirited debate about the game last night but this thread has gone beyond that. I come to this board for news about Bradley and conversation with fellow posters but this is getting out of control. Now someone tell me not to read it if I dont like it!!!!!!!!!!

With all due respect to you and those issues, mexico, that's a silly argument IMO. Why not just tell everyone to not go/watch/listen to games and instead help solve all those issues you just mentioned?

Exactly.

This is a Bradley Basketball forum. We're here to talk Bradley Basketball. That doesn't mean we don't care about other issues, but they are not pertinent to this forum.

I agree mex but thats why we HAVE sports in the first place or at least thats what I use sports for...a distraction to take me away from the real issues you described.

I keep reminding myself the opposite of love isn't hate its indifference when I think people are getting carried away with all this Bradley criticism.

People voice their opinion (wrong as they are :)) on this board becuase they trully DO care....perhaps to much at times. When we QUIT caring we will quit posting. Thats what, the indifference, I don't want to see.

We LOVE BU basketball and it hurts us when they lose and we can't do anything about it. Land of 10,000 coaches.

I think the problem is expectations. We all talk BU Basketball up, and when they deliver we praise them and the coaches. Tell them they are great and we have the most talent in the world.. But then when we lose, it is exactly the opposite, everyone is quick to blame everyone else. I agree with everyone hear saying the Braves need to give more effort and play with pride.. But I also think that we all need to get off the Wins and Losses rollercoaster, step back, and look at the picture from a different view. Here are the facts:
1. We are a very young team.. and in most cases means less consistency. Especially in the first part of the season.
2. We are missing two primary players.. This isn't me complaining and saying they would be world savers, but the truth is.. We need them. Even if he AW wasn't the returning leading scorer, he knows the system, and having him on the floor will make things smoother.. Better? hopefully.. but smoother for sure.
3. Our defense isn't great (it has been going down hill since CB left)
-this also goes with desire. For some reason, their doesn't seem to be a lot of heart on this team. Nobody seems to be willing to carry this team through adversity.. Coaches included. Last year, JC and Sam really stepped up when things weren't great.. Bradley lost some games during that stretch without Daniel, but nobody every faulted them for effort or heart, because you could see the team giving it their all to try and win.. This year, it just isn't there.
4. Jim Les is a good coach. He is proven and I have full faith in him. Bradley is no stranger to rough patches or spots during the season under the helm of Jim Les... Just in the past few years, the Sweet 16 run included.. there were people throwing in the towel. I am not saying that I am happy with these downfalls during the season, but the past 3 years Jim Les has proven that he can deal with these set-backs and make it to the post season.
5. As all of you know... WE NEED A BIG MAN WITH FIRE. I never thought I would say I missed Matt Salley, but he was fire.
6. Losing is never fun.. but a few losses to some quality teams does not mean JL needs to change his system. Like I said earlier, he is proven.
(And to those who will say that he has never finished higher than 4th in the Valley.. I think the fact that we have been in the post season play for 3 years in a row shows he knows what he is doing, and it also shows how tough the valley really is.

Sorry about the rant.. Just had to get it out there. Otherwise, we all know that they hate losing just as much as us.. so let's just keep encouraging these players to go out and have fun and play hard.. The rest will take care of itself.

My point was the tone that this thread has taken and the fact that it has become more than conversation. I understand this is a basketball board and I understand and love Bradley basketball but when it gets personal its a little ridicules. Over the last month posters on this board have attacked the guys who put this board together, the guys that help monitor it and so on and so on. Its B.S. and its not constructive and its not what the board has been about over the period of time I have been coming here.

Maybe I dont get it and yes I have the ability to not be a member and not read this crap..............its a game, we are all fans but it isnt life or death and its not personal..................

I love you man! :) ;) I've noticed a very different tone on this board the past few months; I attribute it to Bradleyfans.com's popularity and growth and the addition of many new members and posters that are unfamiliar of the "tone" that most members of this board encourage.

Now, I'm not bashing the new guys here. I think they've added some excellent viewpoints that we wouldn't have otherwise had. I, too, wish the tone was more positive.

Couldn't agree w/ you more...

Mental toughness is everything these days, and people seem to always want to take the easy way out instead of getting their toes stepped on or being afraid that will happen.

This is all purely based on opinion and may not be for those w/ a thin skin or those who have not invested enough time and effort into this program as some of us have.

If you can't understand why someone posts something then maybe direct something in the form of a question to that person, or option B, let it go...

Either way, none of us have to be here....

WE CHOOSE TO BE HERE...to promote and discuss Bradley Basketball and sometimes other topics in the other forums...

This is like politics to an extent that if you don't agree w/ a certain thread or post, you should be able to clearly have your voice heard, OR you can click out and move on to the next thread.

Its as simple as that guys...If you would like to discuss war, cancer, etc. you can certainly PM me and I will discuss it with you and there is an off-topic forum for that as well...

Just remember that we choose to be here and everyone chooses to discuss problems and successes with everyone else...

We may all have varying opinions, but one thing I know is true...

WE ALL want Bradley Basketball to be the best it can be!

Mexico I feel the same way you do ;)
All Mexico was saying is keep things in perspective of the big picture called life. This is only a game, not life or death, so stop beating yourself and everyone up. Also I want to add that these are YOUNG adults learning their way around a new environment. Let's give them at least a chance without so much negativity. Isn't there enough negativity out there in the real world. You would think a few people here get paid or make a living by how this team does.

I will not stop anyone from criticizing JL, even though I will not, because he signed up for this, is getting paid and is a full fledge adult who can handle this with ease.

To insinuate that the posters on this board don't care about the World's problems is ridiculous. As for those who say there is an off sports forum on this board, I don't know where it is. The word sports is on every forum. If you don't like what you're reading go to another thread, you might find something you agree with. That's what most of us do.

I don't know what bothers me more:

1) The fact that criticism is always viewed as "negative" around here, no matter how constructive it may be......

This is clearly not true. There are hundreds if not thousands of critical posts, especially after losses, and 99% of them are never edited or deleted.
But there is a difference in these 2 statements--

Player A didn't play well tonight.
vs.
Player A has no skills and doesn't deserve to be playing Division I ball.

I could give more specific examples, but I think everyone knows what I mean and will agree that criticism can go too far. Our position is that we will not allow unfair criticism directly aimed at players or coaches.
We've had this discussion many times. It is not censorship. People are free to believe or say whatever they want, but this site is privately owned and managed, and we will decide when things cross the line here. Virtually all message board have rules and limits on what can be said, so I cannot believe anyone here would be surprised, or object that this site does, too.

It is no different than if you invite people into your home, and they start crapping on your couch.
You have every right to set the rules, and throw them out if you feel they have violated those rules.

I have absolutely NO problem with this statement and these rules and would hope everyone could respect them....... And I TOTALLY understand the "crap on your couch" analogy..... And agree! :)

Let's remember these are kids we're talking about here and, contrary to what some may say, they ARE NOT public figures.

Keep up the good work Da Coach :)
