Proposed A-10 Midwest East Conference, Just a Thought

Its anybody's guess at this point!!! This changes almost daily given new info...

Given this weekend's comments from the A-10 commish....They may be (are) looking for schools....Thinking that VCU and Richmond are gone and will be Big East additions after Dayton, SLU, and Butler leave...

So, here goes...Two divisions...for the A10. Almost all private schools except for 2.

East
Fordham
George Mason (new)
George Washington
LaSalle
St. Joes
Rhode Island
U Mass

Midwest
Bradley (new)
Drake (new)
Detroit (new)
Valpo (new)
Duquesne
St. Bonie
Loyola (new)

This would be quite the undertaking to put together...I don't think it will happen. Its such a guess on what will at this point.

Notice that they are basketball and soccer centric....Heck, we even have some Lacrosse in there. I suspect DeRose will raise an eyebrow or two with reduced soccer competition in a revised MVC. Barely have enough teams to play...Maybe split team scrimmage?

Interesting proposal in that we can probably pool one or two road trips to those east coast schools per year (we would play the other teams at home). My guess would be 2 games each against the midwest schools, and one game against 6 of the 7 east coast schools, 3 at home and 3 on the road. I think that is managable. Just a matter of how many public schools this conference would accept.

I think it may be more realistic than other options I've seen proposed actually... I can't help but think it's a distinct downgrade for BU athletically. I feel this is a situation we end up in but I sure hope we somehow can pair ourselves with SLU, Creighton, Butler, and the like, however unlikely that may actually be.

I personally hope that the MVC name and brand can be kept wherever we go. I am learning more and more about how historic this conference is and I would hate to see it go the way of the Big 8/Big 12.

The A-10 is on borrowed time with UMass. They have FBS football and will get pulled into one of those conferences. Whatever the former Big East football schools are going to be called have already inquired

Agreed on UMass. I suspect that the publics will be gone out of the A10.

If it is going to happen for BU as an alternative to the MVC, it's going to be all private.

We can still play members of the old MVC, of course, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, etc., as part of the nonconference schedule to keep some travel costs down.

It's anybody's guess, but in the beginning most of us didn't think realignment would be to our level.
