PSU 38 Illini 33

Isn't one of the assistant coaches missing?

Looks like someone in a suit is sitting on the bench next to the players. Is he That One you're looking for? ;)

3-Bill Cole could not have possibly done any worse than the guys they brought off the bench...so the first game after Weber gave a bunch of interviews saying Cole would be getting more playing time, then why didn't he?

Bruce Weber failed to use his time outs.
He used only one time out in the first 33 minutes of the game.
His starters all played nearly 40 minutes and he still had four TO's left at that time, but he uses only one further time out between the middle of the 1st half and the 3:50 mark in the 2nd half -- at which time the Illini's 9 point lead had already evaporated....and by then (at 3:50 remaining) Penn State was up by one.
From there to the end of the game, PSU never lost the lead.

I agree Weber is a horrible coach.

Is Jim Molinari available?

"we" may be a pet peeve for alot of people. but I say it frequently :D

it really appears there are alot of illini haters on this board what gives??????

I freely admit I hate the illini. This is a BU board. Anyway, the illini is a hyphenated school (UI-UC) so who cares???

Hey-- Bruce Weber might just be SIU's next coach, so let's not be too tough on him yet...

I know this is in jest, but Tornado, he has done an amazing job this year. NO ONE can deny that. Should I go find a couple posts/messages with your predictions for U of I this year? Top 25 for a good portion of the season and a near lock for NCAA tournament is a tad bit higher than you had them pegged... People rip on Bruce, but the man is a good guy, has a Final Four underneath his belt, dominated the MVC, and is really learning to recruit. Not mention he knows X's O's pretty darn well. I don't think he is one of the top 5 coaches in the country or anything like that, but just because he coaches at U of I doesn't make him bad, I don't remember anyone saying how terrible he was when it was at SIU.

U of I has exceeded the expectations I would have had, but I have never trashed them...I am a U of I grad (post grad school, doctorate) so they are sorta my team.
In fact I would say this...it probably surprises me less than it does most people that they've done this well.

I was one of the very few months ago who said he could be doing a COY performance.

And he will absolutely never cheat to get any player, recruiting being his only weak spot and that has been addressed.

I hate when people say "UIUC". Like we really need to differentiate between the Springfield campus, which encompasses all of 5 buildings, and the Chicago campus. It is the main campus in the UI system and does not need any differentiation ;).

About Legion....couldn't agree more. Can't shoot, yet he keeps trying.

The only people that use that term are merely jealous of the program and their past success....;)

Horrible game- perfect storm.

Before we flush Bruce down the toilet with the effluent, let's peek at the lifetime w/l record.

Oops!

Still looks pretty good.

Nobody is that "lucky".

As an ISU and Michigan fan...I love seeing Illinois lose too... Weber's patented hands in pockets, mouth wide open, while complaining about a call is one of the funniest things I have ever seen... it makes it even better when he has marker all over his face!!!!

Absolutely.

Tornado, I agree with all of your thoughts - I myself was hoping to see Bill Cole get a chance with the team struggling so badly to score, and I also didn't understand the lack of substitutions down the stretch - the Illini clearly weren't getting any motion offensively, so why not rip a guy off the bench and send him in with a purpose?

That said, I think Weber has done a great job overall this season, but games like this are so frustrating to watch. Illinois will really need to get things sorted out to have a chance at Ohio State this weekend.

Is there a chance Bill Cole just isnt a good player? He couldn't see time in a game in which his team scored the programs least amount of points since 1947. Eeh.

Bill Cole is a very skilled player. Anyone who has seen him play in HS will tell you that. Every player has to find the right team, coach, and system to utilize their skills.

Cole hasn't played in some of Illinois' blowouts, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he didn't play last night in a game that was close all the way.

He just needs to find the right situation, and he'll play and be successful. I don't think Illinois is that situation, but maybe he does think so.

Remember, he had other big time offers in addition to Illinois, and would have had many more if he had not been committed to U of I very early.

Understood. There are a lot of kids who were very good HS players who werent' very good college players. Bill Cole won't be the first or the last. A lot of guys get recruited to a level they can't compete. That's reality. The U of I coaches have seen him every day for two years. If he could play he would be playing.

For the kids sake hopefully he starts to play at Illinois or he transfers somewhere where he can. Or he can get his degree from U of I and move on. No shame in that.

The Illinois coaches want him to play the 5, and Bill is not and never will be a 5. Tisdale has made a nice transition to the 5 at the Big Ten level, but Bill's body is different. I think he could be an effective 3 or 4, but Illinois is already loaded there too. The coaches at Illinois didn't think Kyle Wilson would ever be any good, but he turned out to be good enough to be All MVC and help lead his team to the Sweet 16.
