Red-White scrimmage

Our BIGS were 9 for 16, .5625 shooting percentage. Throw Will and Taylor (who both sat out) into that mix and we've got a group of bigs that can put shots back in the basket, can't wait until we get some plays that start to work it inside :)

And there were people near me grumbling paying $10, when they said it used to be free. I was a little surprised that the scrimmages went as fast as they did. The night is still young! :)

Why would they charge $10 for a 20 minute scrimmage when they only charge $8 for upper bowl regular season games? Makes no sense.

Just got back also.

Also didn't really like the length, though I spent the whole thing worrying someone would get hurt (I know the scrimmage each other all the time, but still). Thought AT looked a bit bigger, especially in the arms, but that JP looked absolutely huge. Thought Davis showed some nice skills, and also if you watched them dunking in the warmups he looks to be pretty athletic and a good leaper.

Missed the three guys who sat out, but I figure there's no point whatsoever playing a guy who's less than 98% in something like the Red/White, so I'm fine with them sitting. Jordan Brown did look a little gimpy running around, so I'm guessing he pulled something.

Lemon looks good to me. Played good D and looks like a great athlete. Nasty first step.

Speaking of the D, I thought the guys looked stout for the most part-- even the walkons. The kid from Geneseo has a nice shot, but he's tiny and I can't imagine him seeing the floor... Hope we don't get into that situation. That being said, Charonn Woods looked decent to me. He's very strong looking and has average quickness. He played decent defense against guys who were definitely much quicker. Hope we never need him, but I'm thinking he wouldn't be a disaster for a few minutes. With as much stoutness on the defensive end, regardless of who was playing, I'm hoping that means they're buying into whatever it is that Platt is selling.

I don't read much into a scrimmage like this, but I felt like it was an okay result.

To bad the trio were ot tonight....but I rather they stay healthy for real games....its always tough to look good playing against team mates...

JP is strong and should help..he sets a solid screen...AT looked ok, and Coach Les was giving him alot of attention..like other stated, great to see Dodie on the floor playing again....

Ganson has a nice shot...ZONE Buster! :)

Jake is a ton..that kid plays so smart and plays within himself...

Lemon is quick..really quick and can play some "D"...forced on "O" a little

DSE and AW looked good too...but like I said hard to look good playing against your own team....looking forward to Quincy and I bet they are too...

While Davis looked ok...thinking a RS is good for him...

And despite the reduced amount of playing time, they still had a 30 second shot clock for the women and the 35 second shot clock for the men. They should have had an NBA shot clock for both teams to compensate for the reduced amount of time.

What was interesting is that some people left after the women were done playing, I guess ignorant that it was a double-feature.

Can't complain though that I got in for free. If only more students took advantage. :(

Just thought with a brand new arena on campus they could have scheduled a bit better. Was there a volleyball game on Friday or something?

Scheduling the Red/White scrimmage on a Friday or Saturday night makes more sense! Maybe the athletic department is on a learning curve:?:

How can you complain about a crowd at a glorified practice that costs $10 to attend? The game was FAR too short and sloppy. I think this will be my last Red-White game.

I was unaware that the women were playing first. This was the first time I've been to the new stadium, and I thought it was really nice.

Please stop complaining about the crowd!

I basically watched the matchup of Prosser and Thompson. I was hoping that one of them would dominate the other. That didn't happen. I'm guessing they will split the backup center minutes.

I think JP might not be in the equation for back-up minutes by the end of the season, personally...

Truthfully, our bigs are the only players that truly matter as far as us contending. We know what we get with our guards. If we don't have a legitimate inside presence on both ends of the floor, it will be another muddling finish in the middle. Book it!

They both looked pretty solid IMO. AT looks much improved and bigger. JP was impressive.

Hopefully they looked good b/c they are good and not b/c they're both bad. I do think/hope that JP will be a solid 4/5 for the next 4 years.

The biggest difference between J.P. and A.T. is J.P. has better hands and sets better screens, A.T. has improved and needs to continue to work hard as we could use another big that can contribute on this team, A.Davis appears to have a lot of skills for a freshman, he held his own on the floor tonight and blocked 2 shots.

It was a poorly advertised Sunday night event, even MVC games on Sundays don't draw, as everyone on here (I believe including you) has noted...

The students who are sports fans knew about the game. I'm not a student and it was advertised enough that I knew about it. We have a new arena on campus now and they still don't show up. Thank goodness for the Red Sea.

So are you saying he'll be getting starter minutes? Or are you saying he'll be further down the bench?

I thought he played very fundamentally sound and have heard so many people talk about his lack of speed, but really never noticed any such thing. I think the year off did wonders for JP and would like to see AD do the same. He can practice with the team, put on some size & if for some reason injuries require, he can always do a JE and start playing. I just think it will be hard for him to get any meaningful minutes this season.

If JP looks like that after one summer with Coach Wright I can't imagine what he will look like in his senior year.

I agree. We need either or both AT and JP to be able to contribute quality minutes for us to contend for the title.

Ok, first off i wasnt at the scrimmage as i had to participate in a pageant representing my fraternity.

But i talked with aaron(or as refrenced on here that geneseo kid/the little walk on #10 haha) after wards before our bible study and he was absolutely exhausted so i can only guess that they practiced before hand.

I'm glad to hear good things about our bigs, as i agree with everyone that we know what we are getting with the guards, and what really matters is if our bigs can hold their own (or what would be awesome is if they can dominate!).

As for the lack of students, sunday nights normally aren't the best because there are other events, and students normally put off all homework and stuff til sundays because they are spending fridays and saturdays relaxing and what not. Also, many of the fraternities have their new member ed and stuff sunday nights. The event was also not highly publicized to students and there was no major draw for students that were not big BU fans. But if you think the crowd was bad for this i def encourage you to come out to a volleyball game, where this morning it was me and one other student standing and cheering. Also, there was a volleyball game on friday, and there was supposed to be one saturday that was moved to accommodate the funeral for Phil (the baseball player that passed away).

I talked with a few of the guys at the volleyball game friday night and they are all excited for the season to start, and they are all very optimistic about this year and hopefully we can do something special.

I think you get what you get in these scrimmages...

But like BBrave said...its all about the bigs, and its why I believe BU will finish 4th or 5th. I don't believe they are good enough.

That said Prosser is huge, and should be in WWE :)

5 of us were there...but we weren't sitting in the Red Sea Zone................................................................other than that a friend and I searched for Tornado all game......still don't know who you are....we were guessing tons of guys.
