Remy asks for release

Well stated. Remy was probably going to find a way out eventually even if JL was still here. If Geno's teams can hold (and add onto) leads in the final two minutes consistently, this will have been an excellent offseason.

No way, Remy was excited to play for JL, as many here can confirm. We lost him because we switched coaches. It's nothing Geno did wrong, but it is a fact that RA would have been here if JL still was. Though I don't think we can blame Geno for losing him, he had almost no shot to begin with.

I agree with the majority of your post SFP, but I would have to say that we will be down 2 quality players. Harris is a bit of an unknown as I am sure he will have to adjust from 2 years away from any type of organized basketball.

Agree somewhat with the second half of your post, but IMHO, Geno is a bit of an unproven commodity that we overpaid for. I hope he works out here, but I will not have an opinion about him either way until I see him coach.

Completely disagree here... I don't blame anyone from the present coaching staff for not being able to get Remy to recommit to BU. The staff was basically fighting an uphill battle to get Remy here after JL was fired. The blame goes to the administration for this. The departure of Remy is something that should have been considered when deciding on a coaching change. The next 3-4 years should be very interesting......

Ben, I don't think you and I could possibly be on the same page more than we are now.

This just reinforces that players sign with coaches, not schools.

As disappointing as that is to many of us, it's reality.

This happens with every new coach, not just with recruits, but returning players -- good and bad players.

Danny Granger was a better player than anyone BU has had since AP, but he left when the coach that brought him in was let go.

It happens.

RA comes if Les is still here, Granger would have stayed if Mo were still at BU.

That's your trade off for replacing the coach.

In many cases, you are correct.

What is more important than RA leaving, is what Coach Ford does now. This is just one more step in proving himself.

kind of....Granger didn't leave when Mo was let go....he played here the following season for awhile...

we lost 2 our of 4 recruits and a 5th yr senior who could play somewhere else next year. Sam's case rarely happens....but losing 2 of 4 recruits often happens during a coaching change

Couldn't agree more! I hope he can and I'm fully supporting him and hoping to his success.

Well perhaps he wanted to leave no matter who was in his living room. His stock rose and maybe that was too much to pass up.

Who knows?

It's in the rearview now

It's like being promised to a cute girl when a really hot chick starts hitting on you. It's hard not to have thoughts about what might be with the hot girl. Remy thinks he has a hot girl in the wings and with the coaching change he has the chance to pursue her. It might be the best decision he ever made or the worst, only time will tell. BU just needs to keep rolling forward.

I don't think it had to do with the coaching change or anything else folks are talking about. When Jim Les invited him to play D1 basketball at Bradley, Bradley was his best offer. Now, he hears it through the grapevine that many other highly reputable programs that frequently go to the NCAAs and put their players on a big-time stage are interested. No coaching change, he probably has to hope his recent success continues at Bradley and pursue a transfer to one of these schools. Coaching change - an opportunity to take advantage of some of these great new offers on the table that weren't there when Bradley offered.

If Remy eventually signs with Wright State, Penn State, or Marshall, shame on Coach Geno and BU.

Hard to swallow Remy turning down Geno/BU if his only choices were still Wright State, Marshall or Penn State...

If he ends up at a big time bb factory/school, it was all about his personal relationship/loyalty with JL. Yeah...

I'll believe the JL relationship excuse if RA's next tweet is announcing his LOI to where ever JL is coaching post BU.

This has nothing to do with JL or GF, but, all to do with RA blowing up post LOI and jumping ship when he got the chance for what he thinks is a better place.

Not the first, nor sadly the last, big time recruits/players who blow up in ability and suddenly have much much expanded options leave town.

I have no problem with that.

Coaches do the same when they form bonds with recruits/players to hook them, then say sayonara to chase the next bigger job...Part of the game.

Movin on....

One player's potential departure (whether expected or not) should be a criteria for selecting a new coach??? Puhleeeeease!!

The possibility of losing recruits is most definitely considered when deciding on whether or not to fire a coach. If we had 4 All-Americans coming in JL would have been given another year.

It was a long shot at Remy staying after Les was fired. Especially because his stock rose tremendously due to his play after he signed with Bradley.

But regardless, in the long term, the positives of hiring Geno could outweigh the negatives of losing Remy.....hopefully.

I am impressed RA got a chance to talk this over with you prior to him making, and announcing, his decision...;-);-);-)

There is first hand conversation with RA by a couple members on this board and AE Braves is correct. (Which I think you're supporting)
