Replacing Will...

Discussing Wilkins is moot at this point. He's not on the team, and may never be. That being said, I don't care if he's a natural '5' or not. Sometimes guys have to play out of position for the sake of the team. If Wilkins is our most talented big guy, and the most game-ready, then he may have suck it up and play the 5 spot for the rest of this season. We barely play a true '5' anyways, so I don't think it would be as big of a transition as everyone thinks it would be.

I do agree w/ your statement here...

He's not here so why worry about it now...

Unfortunately as they say, we have to play w/ the hand we've been dealt.

JW's father said is is more suited for guard for one, with the european finesse play....plus he only is 205 lbs....AT is heavier!

Seen him play and seen multiple scouting reports as well...he's a face-up shooter....think more Dirk Nowitski or Kyle Wilson type...granted he could post up, but he'd rather be out at least 12-15 feet

fair enough... I havent seen him play so I am going by perceptions which is dangerous..... where I am coming from is that some people on this board want TB in the 5 rotation. I was thinking that we would be better off with an out of position Wilkens than playing TB at the 5.
--also thinking postive thoughts that Wilkens can qualify--:)

Even the staff has to know AT must play @ the 5 now...lets just do it...who knows..he may flourish like WE did! :D

I know this will be unpopular, but they have to go with DC - he has the most experience at that position. I believe he is going to be your starter. Would be surprised if it were anyone else.

He may start against MSU (out of necessity as size is needed). If he does I predict he will foul out rather quickly, and this will be the last game that he starts. JL will have no choice but to play small ball the rest of the way and hope his team is more athletic than anyone in the MVC..... And I think we are :)

Great minds think alike...:) just hoping for the wildcard to come through BB.

Ok, I was "playing" along when I said Wilkens. And I agree with BB - not fair to mention someone not even cleared to play NCAA D1 ball.

But in my defense, I said a player to replace WE. I didn't say a player to the #5 spot. I kinda took the discussion as who could replace the 5th spot on the floor with 4 other players. Since when do we think Coach Les has a #5 in his offensive system? I thought all the cry-babies out there said Coach ran a 4 guard and 1 forward lineup.

But in total "play-along" mode here, how do we replace the 5th player in our lineup?

ANDREW WARREN!!!

That would be perfectly fine w/ me as I'm not sure we'll beat MSU anyways, BUT we need the right player out on the floor for Butler and the games after that, so them figuring out once again that its not him would be fine for me and for our team in the future.

The guy has been given so many chances and has let us down close to every time...so why all the encouragement to give him another?

True...

Then again, Will was actually playing like a 5 was supposed to play....especially when he has post moves that well, guys like Collins could only dream of having...

And I state once again, Theron may only be 6'5", but he's nowhere near a guard...

If we're only talking about particular players that could step in, the obvious choice is Taylor Brown...but I'm with others that he obviously isn't a 5...

Then again, the reason I mentioned him in the other thread is simply because he is a much MUCH better option than Collins.

Well, then give it up StL22 - there isn't a True Center on this team ready to step in and play 30 minutes. I wish DC could - I wish SS could. They can't.

So let's move on to the best 5 players we can put on the floor.

Or better yet - let's beat a dead horse.

sorry Mob...just kicked the horse to make sure it was dead.;)

You're right there isn't....right 100%...

The best 5 right now are Sammy, Chris, Dodie, Theron, and Taylor....

Playing those 5, we would obviously have to play zone....then again, I still believe that we should be playing zone anyways...

And if you put DC into that mix, we should without a doubt be playing zone...

My point before was not grasping why Anthony wasn't in the game when we were up by 23 to begin with...if you can throw him into a game situation there, maybe he just might learn something...

As I said, he is a whole lot more valuable to us than David, simply because he has a future here...David is gone after this season and if we continue to let Anthony ride the pine, what exactly will we expect to get from him come start of next year (if he even stays)?

I am not a fan of DC's game by any means... But I think that we play DC coming off the bench out of neccessity...

I'll also say this again...I don't have a problem w/ playing him sparingly, and I use that term loosely...

I just don't see the why he would or should be considered as a starter again...

To replace WE we have to do two things -

1. Find a guy who can defend the post
2. Find a guy who can keep defenses honest

DC wasn't defending and wasn't keeping teams honest defensively. WE was playing solid defense and making teams play us straight-up. I don't care if the guy is 6'6" or 7'0", a natural 3 or a natural 5 - We need a big guy to be able to defend the post and keep teams honest. That's something that can't really be quantified, although if you look at our record, our defensive numbers, and our shooting percentages, WE's impact does become quantifiable. If it's TB, AT, SS, DC, or even JW, someone's gotta do it.

STL, I am all for playing AT, but I would rather ease AT into the rotation..
Sure last night was a blown opportunity to do this... I think that we shoud pick our spots with AT at first.. If he flourishes, then give him more pt.
