Report: Todd Lickliter Out As Iowa Coach

Very interesting. He was a major success at Butler, and a major bust at Iowa. It will be very interesting to see where he lands.

What has he done at Iowa? Some of my Iowa friends have called him, "Mr. No Personality". I'm sure he's a good guy, but the players he's recruited are nothing special. They need to get some big men who can score and defend.

Looks like it is official...I just heard from a friend that Rivals sent out a text to its premium members of Hawkeye Report that there will be a 2:30pm press conference to announce Lickliter's firing.

Most people seem to want to throw out all the stops to get Bruce Pearl, a move that would surely endear Iowa to our friend Tornado

He has done nothing at Iowa, and that's why he's fired.

If Jacobsen leaves UNI I would not be surprised to see him go there. I think he'd continue to build UNI into the next Butler.

If a kid has signed an LOI at a school and then the Coach gets fired, can he leave and not have to wait a year to play at the new school?

This is insane on many levels. Iowa is not the big-time place it thinks it is either.

Lickliter never should have left Bulter.....Maybe he could or should have learned something from Monson who "cashed in" the Gonzaga elite eight run and then destroyed himself by going to Minnesota.

the grass is not always greener, even if the money is.

It would be kind of funny if the UNI coach took the IOWA job and then UNI hired Lichliter. It would be even funnier if UNI kept winning and IOWA kept losing. (I am not an IOWA fan).

I agree that Iowa in the big picture is the sticks, as well it should be. But as such, it is THE state's highest profile sports brand. And they have to get fans back in the seats at Carver Hawkeye.

Not good for the Valley if Jacobsen and Lickliter switch jobs! Jacobsen will continue to recruit well - not sure about Lickliter's ability to recruit, but if the past couple years are any indication, not lookin' good for whichever team gets Lickliter.

No. The recruit is comitted to the school if he signed a LOI.
Schools usually will release a kid from his LOI, but sometimes they don't.
If they don't, the kid would have to wait a year, usually at a prep school, to resign elsewhere.

BTW -- useless trivia now, but how many people recall that Bobby Lutz had Michael Beasley committed to Charlotte at one point...
and only a weird sequence of events - Huggins to K-State, then Huggins paying Beasley's AAU coach $400,000 to quit at Charlotte and come to K-State and bring Beas with him...has now cost Lutz his job..........

I also just found out that Donivine may have had an offer from Iowa...and so maybe some of the news this weekend has influenced him..
anyway...I have heard several Iowa fans say they DO NOT want another mid-major hire, so the name of Jacobson causes some cringing...

Oh and they would be lucky to get Ben!:-o

not just Ben, but quite possibly Cully Payne & Matt Gatens could become available...

I heard 3 Iowa starters(Payne & Gatens?), went to the AD and said they were leaving if Lickliter isn't canned. Look for Iowa to sniff around Gregg Marshall, Brad Brownell from Wright State, maybe even Gregory at Dayton.
