Reynolds: BU playing short handed again...

Taylor was a huge factor for this team so the veterans will need to step it up and contribute even more , we may have to play more zone defense in order to keep our best players on the floor , I would sure like to see A.Davis get some minutes in these early season games because I think we are going to need his help down the road, if we ever get into foul trouble you cannot expect him to contribute unless he is being given some minutes each game , he certainly performed ok during the red-white scrimmage, if we are worried about his defense then play some zone when you put him in.

Beggars can't be choosers and we need help inside. If it comes from Davis, great, but answer me this, if MK and AT, with all their shortcomings, saw the court vs. Kingsville and Davis didn't, what does that say about the coaching staff's opinion of Davis' progress or his ability to help us?

That being said, I would love it if Davis surprises us and is ready to give us 10 minutes and 3-4 boards a game, but I think you can get that from a JE, WL, or DSE playing a few extra minutes each game.

.

Maybe this has something to do with the fact that JL and the staff has been quoted as saying that Andrew is behind everyone else in terms of development

I want to smh @ every big we have had since Theron

the browser here at work won't let me get that link -- can someone simply post what in that column is new?
We all know BU has some injuries and players out and that it has happened in past years, but is there anything at all new?

Here are some key sections to the article, T:

Add Taylor Brown??™s name to a long list that includes Phillip Gilbert, Jeremy Crouch, Daniel Ruffin, Andrew Warren twice, Will Egolf and Dodie Dunson as key Braves who missed large chunks of or full seasons.

Brown??™s circumstances, obviously, are much more serious than those past players who suffered disabling injuries.

And his worth to this team is every bit as great as those past and present Braves.

Brown was Bradley??™s best rebounder and most versatile scorer. He was a matchup nightmare for opponents because of his ability to score inside and out.

???We??™ll have to change how we do things,??? said Les on Saturday. ???A lot of our philosophies were with Taylor in mind. Taylor was a big minutes guy for us.
+++++

Brown??™s versatility and skill gave the Braves another dimension. Remember how he dominated Creighton in Omaha last March?

There is not another player on the BU roster ??” or any Missouri Valley Conference roster for that matter ??” quite like Brown. So the Braves will need to mix and match with a variety of combinations.

Regarding the bigger guys, Milos Knezevic will definitely get a long look.

The 6-foot-8 perimeter player needs to become a stronger defender and rebounder to add to his 3-point game, which was off line Friday.

???Milos got 18 minutes and needs to produce,??? Les said. ???He has to step up and give us some positive production.???

Fourth-year 6-10 junior Anthony Thompson continues to mostly ride the pine, picking up just three second-half minutes Friday.

???He??™s gotta work to get on the floor,??? Les said of Thompson. ???We don??™t have agendas, as coaches, against playing people. It??™s all about how you practice. We film and stat every practice and evaluate every one of them.???

Shouldn't the title of Reynolds article be:

BU playing short again!

Kinda describes the same situation, in a more creative way I think!

BU has the players to still make this season a success. We need to change how we attack teams and how we defend, but it can be done.

I agree we have the players, what changes will we be willing to make in order to put our players in a successful position.

I really believe BU has to use multiple lineups, mutilple defenses, and multiple full-court presses.

I think with the depth that we have at guard, a full court press could make a lot of sense. You have extra fouls to play with. You have good, quick players.

IF BU could press and get 3 or 4 "free" baskets a game off of a press, then it helps lessen the stress on our half-court sets.

For the most part, I agree with what you are saying, but I think that we lack depth when it comes to a guard who is comfortable playing the point. Until someone adjusts, I don't think that we can press. --for the time being at least-

Unfortunately we're going to have to play 'short' out of necessity. I think it speaks more to the failure of the development of big men than anything. The only way this team will be able to win games is to defend like h-ll and not turn the ball over. Platt has a track record of great defensive teams - Let's see it. It's our only chance.

With Lemon, and possibly DSE and Dodie, we should, at least, have the option of selectively applying full court pressure.

and because we do not have another guy that is comfortable yet at point that we need to press more so not to have to rely on a pg. I also believe our guys are good enough ball handlers that the pg situation without SM will take care of itself. DSE needs to slow it down a notch when he becomes the point man for us. He has the basketball IQ to adjust but that takes a bit of time.

I'd rest Sammy until conference season. We're going to need all of our guards as healthy as they can be if we're going to have any shot at success.

He's going to have to play some. I didn't see the game
Friday but many said he's a little out of condition. Work him in and build up the minutes the next 45 days....

Exactly! I want SM ready for conference play and do not give a rats about the games before the Valley season begins at this time. He did not even look like 75% ready. I also believe we should move him over to the 2 position until he's at least 90%. We will need a healthy SM if we want to make some noise.

Putting all the "fault" issues out of your mind concerning the litany of Les-era injuries and missed games....How many total wins did they cumulatively cost Bradley?
