Reynolds: Focus on Taylor Brown

Not sure what happened to the Sammy/TB thread, but there are some "answers" in these latest PJS articles....

Senior point guard Sam Maniscalco has been sidelined much of the preseason with an ankle injury and may be slow returning to game action.
Brown has been slowed this fall by a hamstring pull and missed the Red-White scrimmage. But he??™s expected at full strength by the season??™s tipoff.

He ADDED 20 pounds to him? Geez.

Sounds like Taylor's got the right mentality this year. If he can stay focused, I expect him to be our best player.

The Sammy/TB thread was delted because some of the old, false rumors were resurrected by some of the same people who have been proven wrong before.

I'm a bit concerned as to how a guy gets through so much PT and a season with 20/200 vision and no one notices...

How could he drive? See in class? Heck, shop at the grocery store?

It's a wonder he was as good as he was last year

It's one eye, your brain is very good at adjusting for differences in eye strength, and as a VERY rough scale 20/200 is about -2.5 diopters, that's borderline reading glasses. I wear -8.5 diopters, my dad had -24.5 and -25.5 diopters before surgery. Moral of the story, 20/200 isn't that bad only having it in one eye, your brain could adjust and you wouldn't notice too much.

I'm pretty high on TB this season on and off the court.
I think he'll be on MVC 1st team by season's end.
My main concern with him is possibly trying to do too much to be Mr. Valley. He's got a world of talent, but not close to being ready for NBA.
Needs to keep focused on the team and not force becoming the Valley's leading scorer - let the game come to you, Taylor! You'll be a-ight.

From someone who played baseball...

Trust me, it's very noticeable when playing sports

Taylor didn't notice... and many people have this and go on about their lives none-the-wiser. -2.5 diopters really isn't much, as I said, especially in one eye. I have been off by 1.5 diopters before and had no idea until my yearly check up, and this is when I was playing competitive baseball and soccer. I'm not saying vision isn't important. But 20/200 in one really isn't a big a deal as it sounds.

I had Lasik last February and due to my age, so I wouldn't have to use the cheater glasses, they suggested monovision. That means I have my dominant eye tuned for distance vision and the other for reading or close up. When it was first done, the difference was very noticeable, but now it's seamless and overall I'm supposed to have 20/20 vision. As you pointed out the brain has the capability to overcome minor discrepancies in vision and although 20/200 sounds awful, I can see a situation where TB might not have even noticed it.
