Rivals countdown of all 347 D1 teams

Under the radar: Low-major players to watch

Under the radar: Low-major players to watch

Rivals has a new article posted this morning. They are trying to get more visibility for players who are not at major schools.-

Under the radar: Low-major players to watch

A couple of slightly familiar names-
Johnathon Jones- a 5'11" guard from Oakland University who played against Bradley last March in the CIT. He lead the country in assists last year with 8.1 apg.

Ryan Wittman- Bradley recruited him a little out of Eden Prarie, Minnesota. He is the son of former NBA player Randy Wittman. He is now a senior at Cornell University. He averaged 18.5 ppg last year and shot 43.3% from three.

Rivals considered these conferences to be the low-major conferences-
Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Ivy, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southland, Summit and Southwestern Athletic.

They will next reveal their picks for Mid-major players to watch, which will include the MVC.

Rivals countdown

I noticed that in their recruiting committments by conference, Rivals lists 14 conferences BUT NOT THE MVC! This is hard to understand. Is the MVC really that weak or is it that the MVC doesn't really do an effective job of promoting itself on the national level? or---is Rivals brain dead when it comes to basketball conferences?

Rivals always has concentrated more of their attention on conferences that play football as well as basketball.

Here are all the Rivals affiliated sites for individual D1 schools, and only Creighton has a Rivals site among MVC schools (theirs just started).
Note that they list Creighton as an Independent! They also list Notre Dame as an Independent, because they are Independent for football (though they are in the Big east for basketball).-

99. Bradley
CONFERENCE
: Missouri Valley
BEST PLAYER: G Sam Maniscalco
QUICK TAKE: The Braves have won at least 21 games in four straight seasons, the longest such streak in the MVC.
BUZZ: Jim Les has made his alma mater into one of the better programs in the Valley. Bradley is trying to become just the fifth Valley team to win at least 21 games in five consecutive campaigns. The Braves like to employ a rugged man-to-man defense, but expect them to apply more pressure in hopes of forcing turnovers and pushing the action.

did you see what they say about ISU??

"The Redbirds likely are a year away from making much noise in the MVC"

they have two of the top players in the MVC, both have a chance to be 1st team ALL-MVC, plus another good senior guard in Phillips.
If it isn't this year, then I don't know when it'll be, but Rivals says they are NIT material.

Interesting to see Rivals and CHN preseason picks for 3-6 in the Valley are exactly reversed....

Rivals ........... CHN
#99 BU ........... #117 SIU
#84 ISU ........... #94 WSU
#77 WSU .......... #76 ISU
#69 SIU ........... #72 BU

After the the top two picks, UNI and CU, there doesn't seem to be consensus as to 3-6...Will be interesting how MVC coaches and media rank teams later on this year.

With all the 3-6 teams, the prognosticators must have differences in opinions as to the impact of new recruits/JC transfers, estimating growth between players' freshman and sophmore years, and guessing on the performance of players returning from injury...

Could be a wild year in the MVC!

And honestly, either finish would not surprise me.
