PEORIA ??” Bradley University senior basketball player Daniel Ruffin was arrested before dawn this morning on a charge of domestic battery, prompting his suspension from the team for an indefinite period, according to police and the university??™s athletic department.
The Journal Star learned Ruffin, 23, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery and, through midday, remained at Peoria County Jail with bond still not set.
Details of the actions that led to his arrest remained unavailable this afternoon from city police, who referred inqueries to the university.
Police, however, were called at about 3:20 a.m.to Ruffin??™s apartment at 908 Frink St. and talked there to a 20-year-old woman before taking Ruffin into custody, police said. The incident that prompted the call took place about 2:30 a.m., police said.
The alleged victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, police said, but further details were unavailable from those hospitals.
The status of Ruffin??™s availibility to play in future Bradley games this season will be based on a review of his arrest and the alleged incident, the university said.
