Ruffin out?

This responce has nothing to do with the incident but let me tell you I've seen people, who you would never imagine, do some real stupid acts for the name of love especially after a few cocktails or whatever.

This could apply to both parties in the situation. Les publicly said "I've known him since he was 5 or 6 and we have to let this play out". To me that just says "I know the story, I cant say anything, so just wait".

I'm hoping as much as the rest and yes that is exactly what I was hinting at. You never know what someone is capable when strong emotions (men or women) are in the mix and there are always 2 stories to an incident. We can only speculate at this point what happened.

After hearing the reports last night and then reading more of them today I believe everyone should give D.Ruffin a chance to tell or hear his side of the story, most people don:t realize that even if the police did not totally believe the womans story the law requires them to arrest Ruffin on suspicion and then it is up the the states attorney on whether to pursue charges , we should at least hear his side of the story monday.

Unless this goes to trial, I don't think we're going to hear Ruffin's side of the story anytime soon, if at all.

If I were a betting man, i'd put my money on him walking free today with all charges dropped.

Jason

If all charges get dropped that would mean the charges in the first place werent warranted and thus would be a false police report. If the charges against him are dropped, I wouldnt be surprised if there were charges placed against the accuser.

While this may be what should happen, I highly doubt any charges would be brought against the accuser. If nothing else because of the publicity of the case. Being close the domestic abuse prevention and response for a good part of my life I know the slippery slope this could bring. Part of the problem with domestic abuse now is that victims are so afraid to report it. If it becomes commonplace for dropped charges to be returned with charges against the accuser this would be a major step backwards in the little progress that has been made and perpetuate the current problem.

According to a few lawyers I talked to that almost never happens. It is very difficult to charge someone with making a false report if the police found probable cause to make the arrest in the first place.

No way...it was the police who sought charges after the interview with the woman. If charges are dropped against DR no way anyone would pursue charges against the woman.

If the chareges are dropped does that mean that the school will remove his suspension? That is the real question. The school does not have the same standards as the law and discreation is completely in the hands of President Glasser.

If there are no charges, and if DRuff is released, then by what and for what reason would the school impose any further actions?
If this happens, then DRuff is deemed innocent and I have heard nothing to indicate he violated any school or team rules.

He was in his own apartment and no drugs nor alcohol were mentioned at any time.

I hope your right T, but, while I really like our new president, She is quick to make an example and will leave NO doubt that BU is taking action. She is a huge Basketball fan and says Hi to me every game before tipoff. But she will not let that get in the way of assuring BU is perceived as a class-act organization. The approach is a double-edged one. She takes very appropriate action and quick to make BU look good, but it also may mean she will be unrealistically tough in some cases.

I'm sitting here having no idea about what really happened prior to the arrest...that said:

Hypothetically the school could punish DR regardless of what the State's Attorney decides to do. They have their own set of rules and if, for whatever reason, they believe either the school's code of conduct or the athletic department's have been violated why couldn't they take action and punish him?

I'm not at all saying they should or will suspend him...I'm just saying Bradley is not bound by what the State's Attorney decides to do.

I just telling from my personal experience with the school judicial system that it doesnt necessarily matter what the "law" does when it comes to school disipline. Just because the chareges are dropped doesnt mean that everyone involved is completely innocent in the eyes of the school. The arrest itself warrants action. Hopefully the time in jail plus the one game missed is enough if the charges are dropped but it is up to President Glasser to decide.

I just hope if this happens, that the people who (mostly on another board) are ripping into DRuff and calling him thug and presuming he's guilty,
haev the common decency to apologize and resign their moderator position on the board that would allow them to take such rips at presumably innocent people.
You simply will not see such wild, irresponsible, and unwarranted slams against potentially innocent people on message boards anywhere except, that one which is kinda getting known for it, and if their moderators are taking the lead, it is worse than shameful.

I have heard some rumors recently that would lead me to believe like Jason that all the charges will be dropped as he was most likely only defending himself.

Hopefully the media has more than 1 reporter working on a sunday in case Ruff news breaks. Large media turnout at a SWAT situation near Northwoods Mall. Guy barricaded in his house after domestic dispute. Has long rifle and says he can snipe at up to 200 yards, yikes.

Here is yet another report that actually quotes police spokepeople, and doesn't just call the alleged victim and print a few things she says.....

"A Peoria police spokesman said ......... a 20-year-old woman accused Ruffin of cutting her lip as he tried to get her out of his apartment. She was treated at a hospital and released."
http://www.sj-r.com/Sports/stories/25816.asp

So the story changes yet again....."using hands and feet" -->> "choking her" -->> "cutting her lip as he tried to get her out of his apartment" -->> so what's next??
Could it be she was asked to leave.....she was uninvited...trespassing......does he not have a right to get trespassers off his property....could she have been a threat to him and he found it necessary to get her off his porperty?

I think thats exactly how the story will play out. And hopefully it will do so soon so he can get out and deal with this outside of jail.

It's pretty funny that this report came from SPRINGFIELD. As I posted in another thread, the PJ Star is Anti-BU sports. Only publishes the negatives, never the positives. Week and the other sites havn't been updated yet though.
