Sam Singh Year 6

This is great news, this may also signal the end to Thompson as most people have been thinking. We now have a glut of big men or Les may option to go with 3 big men for parts of the game.

Singh, Egolf, and Prosser at center
Brown and Milos at Power Forward
Then alternate Thompson in for a 3 big lineup with Warren and SM as guards is how I would take it.

Or either Milos or Prosser can red shirt. Ahh the possibilities.

This will give Sam an extra year to try to figure out what an illegal screen is... Just jokin' around...

I was gonna same something about that, but maybe not the same way you said it.

Anyway...

Sam - it's the MVC and they are gonna call players for moving screens. You've learned. (yea, yea - I know you still get called for it... but not as much). So now teach what you've learned to the young guys.

Thanks for coming back another year!

Given our current scholarship situation and the fact that we will not have another big with any real experience next year I also think this is great. If WE gets healthy, AT gets better, and JP and MK are as good as advertised, we may not need him, but I feel a lot better knowing we have an experienced, serviceable big who can give us some decent minutes. It certainly makes a lot more sense to me than bringing in a juco big.

SS would not have been comming back next year unless Les was onboard.

By the way, I heard from an inside source we may see SS for years to come, There was a little loop hole...as a child Sam was bequeathed to the Civic Center.

Thus he is part of the building.

Sam comes with the building, deal with it NCAA.

wow

wow

that is very good news for the BU program, SS will be like a player coach, a major contributor to this team next year.

This is fine whatever, I would prefer to bring in someone with athletic ability but Singh for a 6th is probably good for this program in the short and long term.

What I am P'Od about is that this probably means the end of Thompson or another year of limited minutes for the player.

How can JL state that Thompson is his second best big man he has ever coached then he never sees the court then he brings back a very athletically challenged Singh for a 6th year? This just all means that Thompson is either not who JL thougth he was or something between the two never meshed.

Either way as a BU fan I would really like to know the truth to what has happened to Thompson. Maybe someone in the Peoria media can get a truthful answer to this

I was hoping for this news and I was thinking about it today. This is a very positive development IMO and also let's not write AT off yet. There were plenty of people writing off WE last year. AT is only classified as a Freshman remember. We now really will have two 5's starting the year because if you think WE will be ready to play major minutes in the beginning of the season you have no idea what it takes for a 5 person to be ready for the pounding it takes in D-I basketball. That is why maybe we have not seen AT yet this year. Is it possible that he is just not ready to take the pounding necessary. DC had problems with the pounding and I've seen bigger guys then sticks get pummeled. PATIENCE everyone!

Couldn't agree more.

First off, Prosser has said he wants to play the four. Let's predict that he plays there.

Second, how does this mean that Thompson is gone?!?! He is a freshman! Also, in my opinion, Singh is coming back next year to be a support person and hopefully not have to be a huge minute hog.

Third, I can't think of any better way to spend this scholarship this year. If we pick up two guards how are either of them going to play? We are way too deep with guards next year to pick up TWO more. Also, if you get a juco big man it doesn't fill our need. We don't need someone to step up in two years, we need him immediately. We also need someone to help develop the young guys, not be a project. And if you were thinking of possibly a freshman four or five man, you obviously have not done your recruiting homework. Look at Prosser's class after 2010! Prosser, Knezevic, Wilkins, and Harris. All 6'7 or taller!

If Sam Singh were still the player he was before, I would probably be mildly upset at this, but he has developed into a legitimate DI player who can come off the bench or give starter's minutes if needed. I all of a sudden love the fact that he is coming back. And he has improved every offseason - maybe he will get even better. Our young guys need him.

Sam Singh isn't going to be a stud ever, but he can give you 15 solid post minutes a game. With our inexperience up front, I think it will definitely help some to have him back. He's a smart player and knows his physical limits, hopefully he can mentor the other young post players we're bringing in. Definitely better that a Juco big man as they usually are not very good their first year.

I side with the Big Dude here. A JUCO big has been thrown around a lot as an option for one of our open scholies. I think this blows a JUCO big out of the water. Let's look at this is a recruit for a 'big' position - A guy with 5 years DI experience, or a JUCO with glorified HS experience? Some work (Zach Andrews), some don't (Rashad Austin). We know what we get with SS. I like it. It should NOT inhibit AT or Jordan Prosser. I don't think Les would do this if it would. I trust the staff on this, and really like how it got announced tonight. Awesome end to an awesome night!

There is no mystery. Players get playing time based on whether they deserve it, or whether the coach thinks they can help the team. He just hasn't earned it yet.
Maybe if Bradley was playing in blowout games where he could get some garbage minutes, we'd see him, but the games recently have all been close.

I'm very happy with Sam Singh returning. Most years, we have an open scholarship anyway. So, it's not like he'd be taking a scholarship from a player we really want. Even if we get a shooting guard recruit, he's not likely to play many minutes with the returning guards + Andrew Warren healthy.

And Sam Singh is definitely a better alternative than a JUCO recruit. He brings experience to our frontcourt with uncertainty surrounding our younger post players for next season.

Thompson is only a freshman this year. And he'll be only a sophmore next year. Let's give him some time.

Good One BB:!:

If you missed last night's game, then you missed the evidence that Sam Singh is a GOOD and experienced big man,
and will be better and more experienced next year. If Coach Les didn't fully agree, then
I cannot imagine they'd have worked to getting him an extra year...plus he's a GOOD team leader!!
The big men we have next year (Egolf, Thompson, Prosser, and Knezevic) will have a grand total of 3 starts and 240 minutes played in their careers.

Sam Singh himself has more than twice that amount of experience this season ALONE, and his career totals well over 1000 minutes and
101 games that he's already appeared in!!!

Good one T. JL is smart and he just proved it. SS will lead next year's team both on and off the court with his team first and leadership.

First of all we don"t win last nights game without Sam Singh as D. Collins was having a bad game, he proved that he can contribute when he gets more minutes on the floor, I like him staying for one more season as we need an experienced big more then a new j.c. player that may or may not fit in, A.T. has a lot of skills and just needs to get in the gym and work hard this summer so he can get his time on the floor next season.
Welcome back Sam .
