I'm more worried about JW then I am of a player that we cannot sign until next November. I also prefer to go after players that want to come here.
On Vercase and recruiting. He was a master recruit. He could finr a dimond in the rough i.e. HH and HS players who were getting recruited by the big boys, i.e. Donald Powell and Anthony Manuel. AM was being courted by none other then Georgetown one of the best programs in the 80s. DV had an arogant personality that translated well with recruits during that time.
You know, I hear this type of recruiting talk about Versace, yes he did very well with Anderson, Hawkins, etc but many, I think do forget, that after the NIT and when Barone left, BU basketball, though competitve, went through a little of a lean time.
No NIT's or NCAA's from the graduation of Anderson to Hawks' sophmore year. 3 years I believe. There were at that time often recruiting misses. Nolan Gibson, Booker Johnson, Roosevelt Davidson, heck he is the one who gave the notorius Mike Cash a scholorship.
Before he got Les and Williams as transfers his program was in a bit of a funk. Losing Barone was huge, gaining the transfers and striking lightning in a bottle with Hawkins was I would bet job saving for Versace.
16-13 10-8 MVC
15-13 7-9 MVC
17-13 9-7 MVC
In the 3 years following the graduation of Anderson Reese.
Anyway, not every person you bring in will workout but, also for many when your saying lets get rid of Les or have issues with what he does, even the coach who brought to BU, Id say 4 of its 10 best teams ever to play at BU... I am counting Stans 88 team he coached/watched but that was Versaces team, went through a tough time.
I will guarantee you this program today is going in the right direction... biggest thing 06 should taught us is college basketball is a marathon and if you get hot, come togehter as a team and us as fans have some patience... amazing things can happen.
I was very upset about getting beat by WCU, but I had to remember you do not win anything to remember in December.
